yup, new flavor of the week = comps
I think they're cool but I don't think it's worth getting another echelon.
If this were a full time competition pistol for me (which it isn't) then maybe I'd do it to get every advantage I could in a stage but for a self defense / training pistol I don't have to have it.

now, my next pistol will be a Prodigy and on that, I think I'll get the comp just for fun.

I've always been of the opinion the Echelon is, WITHOUT QUESTION, 1 if the smoothest shooting full-size pistols on the market. Probably because it's designed much like the Zev OZ9, in that while the grip module is polymer, the frame itself is steel, which is what soaks up much of the recoil. I love shooting it so much that when I go for my weekly range trips to shoot my Shadow Systems MR920P, I end up renting & shooting at least 100 more rounds through the Echelon my range has for rent probably 2 or 3 times a month.

I've also always been of the opinion that unless the gun's being used as a competition gun, a comp of porting is entirely unnecessary. But I gotta admit, after reading this article, my curiosity has been piqued. Just as a comparison, I know how smooth & flat my MR920P shoots, which is to say like a pellet gun. And I'm BEYOND certain that's the case with this new comped model.

Just like the M&P M2.0 & its Carry Comp versions vs the standard uncomped versions, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be heartbroken if I couldn't get my hands on the comped version simply because I know how smooth the gun shoots in its standard format. But now I'm SUPER excited to check the comped version out!

Now that the Steiner MPS is down to a reasonable place of roughly $350-$360, the Echelon's the only gun I'd wanna put it in to try my 1st foray into the world of "mailbox" style enclosed emitter optics. However, I'm sure I'd be equally happy with the SCS320, 1 of the new Sig Romeo X Enclosed Pro optics (despite the $530 price tag), or my favorite old standby, the EPS, provided I could mount it using the Springer Precision mount & not the plate from the perpetually questionable CHPWS. And the newer Streamlight TKR-7X-HL looks at though it'll mount PERFECTLY on it.

Sadly, my gun budget for the year has been expended due to my PDP Pro Compact misadventure. I plan to either trade my PDP, gun for gun, for an XMacro Comp that 1 of my range buddies has. And if THAT doesn't come to pass, then I plan to sell it, & buy the XMacro Comp conversion kit to use on my standard base model 365. But when my yearly budget is replenished after the beginning of the year, the Echelon & the Smith M&P M2.0, comped or not, are certainly at the top of my "Next Gun to Buy" list. I'm BEYOND certain that the comped version, much like my Shadow Systems MR920P, probably shoots as softly as a pellet gun. And that alone is enough to make me wanna check it out.

Here's also hoping we see an Echelon compact soon. Some have made the argument that the HCP fills that role. I disagree. The HCP is Springfield's version of the Sig 365. And just like Sig, just because the 365 exists doesn't mean there aren't compact/Carry versions of the P320. A G19 size/version of the Echelon would be an ENORMOUS success in my book. A more full-size frame with a 4 inch barrel (like a G19 version of the Echelon), even sans comp, would be an excellent & popular addition to the Echelon lineup.

I look forward to reading & hearing reviews from actual customers about their experiences with the comped Echelon.
 
Has anyone bought & mounted 1 of the new(er) Sig Romeo X Enclosed Pro optics to their Echelon? If so, how do you like it? Do you think it's nice enough to justify the $530 price tag it has VS the EPS? Also, for those of you running the new(er) Streamlight TLR-7XHL, what brand of kydex OWB holster are you using for it? Maybe I'm missing them, or just haven't found the correct brand/model that fits that light yet. But I'd like for know what holster y'all have e been using for this particular combo of gun & light combo.
