You might want to think about expanding your perimeter like to Texas and north to the Virginia coast-line.

I put my Labs on ducks and upland birds in Illinois, Indiana, Texas, Kansas, and South Dakota but not in gator habitat. My Labs have always been family. My current Lab is retired now so not much chance of a gator encounter nowadays

There's not many living things a gator that size couldn't gobble down in Mississippi or Florida for that matter. Heck, Hayes' cows wouldn't have been safe if it wanted some beef for dinner!
