If you love large-bore pistols, especially the 10mm, odds are you’re a fan of some of the more obscure models. Perhaps the perfect example of a 10mm pistol that makes fans’ hearts skip a beat is the Bren Ten, because it’s so hard to come by but it also pioneered the 10mm cartridge.

The Bren Ten: A Historical Failure

Sometimes, even a quality, well-designed (mostly) product will fail. It happens all the time and can be for any number of reasons. Such was the case with the Bren Ten pistol, as explained to us by none other than Larry Vickers. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, a California company called Dornaus and Dixon teamed up with Jeff Cooper, yes, that Jeff Cooper, to create a gun to replace the Colt 1911 as the next “gold standard service pistol.”

Most don’t know that when you bought a Bren Ten, most didn’t come with any magazines, you had to wait and order one from them, no charge though, they actually had more guns made then they had magazines for them. When I was younger I was at a gun show in WV, dealer had a NIB Bren Ten with 2 magazines included for $500.00, at that time I didn’t know you could transfer it from WV to Ohio, so I didn’t get it……arrrrgggggggg.
