Full Knee Replacement Surgery

Phaser

Operator
Had left knee replaced this past Wednesday...and to those who have gone before me on the post operative days are beyond painful at best. I'm the world's worst patient...bar none...just ask my wife. The pain killers they provide these days are so light duty...these hospitals are scared to death with the opioid pandemic in the world around us.
And so, it goes I keep hearing the words it will get worse before it gets better, but you must push through it.... yeah, thanks for the support.

Hope you start feeling better soon, I know what your feeling since I had major surgery about this time last year having my kidney and mass removed, it takes quite sometime to start feeling better, hang in there!

I am now 8 and a half weeks post total knee replacement surgery myself. It does get better. Baby steps. You'll be on a walker for a little while, then a cane, and before you know it, you'll be a new man! It sucks the first week or two, having to depend on others for help. I was thrilled when I was able to drive again, after about 4 weeks. But I had to use the wife's suv. It took me about 6 weeks before I could crawl my way up into my truck! lol And then there is physical therapy. Not always so fun, but now I enjoy going. Well past the worst and most painful parts. Now I just have to get the other knee done. I'll wait about a year before that though.

Brother, I've had  BOTH hips replaced, and Im only 46.
If you're not getting the pain relief you need, talk to your doctor.......
You don't have to endure pain the degrades your quality of life, but it rests on YOU, to get the care and pain relief you need.
They aren't mind readers, speak the hell up.........

All the best man, knees are tough. I’ve done both hips and they’re no fun but knees (my friends anyway) have been worse. Do NOT give up-follow the exercise regime the PT gives you (no fun-I asked the cute little 20 something who was my PT “when did a nice girl like you first develop these sadistic tendencies?” Got a smile and we both got a yuck out of it. If you aren’t getting pain relief talk to the Doc. It’ll not be pain free but it ought to be tolerable.

Pain sucks and Dr's that won't/don't listen make it worse! Speedy recovery to you! I'm the next 2 months (wishfully thinking) I'll get a ln implant that blocks my neck pain. I tell doctors "just cut the nerves "! Almost 20 years of this crap can really wreck havoc on a person! 1 of 3 people I've taken to has had success with this. Not very good odds. The 1 person that did have success was a member on here from CO. He hasn't been on here for quite some time. More people have success with their back, but not so much with their neck. Let owner on LRH site didn't have success with his neck. Many of us keep in touch as to find out what works for us and might work for them?

Hope it'll be smoother sailing for your recovery!

ditto
ask about an alpha stim machine
no drugs, but does take pain away
its one more tool to use if you are not keen on medicines
i had some from back surgery that let you hear colors, see ghosts and write songs etc
i lost a few days

I hear you brother...I had rt. hip replacement 2013. Back to work in 6 wks. working as a pipefitter.

I think my wife has 99% of everyone beat on metal replacements, the order:
Left hip
Left shoulder
Left knee
Two rods in the lower back to straighten the spine
Small plate in the forearm near the wrist for a fracture repair from falling
Left femur pin put in through the replacement knee. Broke leg 20 days after retiring

We have no close family so I helped with PT on all these replacements, worked full time,
did all the housework and cooking till she was able to start sharing these chores again.

We fought the opiate withholding dance. I was ready to strangle one case nurse over lying
to us about never getting requests for refills.
