GB shipping can be absurd

Looking to buy an extra magazine or two for my Echelon.

Browsing the listings on GunBroker, I see that sellers want between $8-$30 to ship. $30? Does it come loaded with ammo?

I understand that shipping rates have escalated, but does someone genuinely expect a buyer to pay that much to mail something that weighs around 4 ounces? I know I don't have to buy from these people if I don't want to pay their price.

My question is, are people generally oblivious to shipping costs when making a purchase? Or am I just spoiled by Amazon's free shipping options?

I buy a lot off of GunBroker. Unless purchasing magazines in bulk, it is pretty difficult to find a decent deal. By the time the seller pays GB their cut, the credit card company, and the additional processing GB charges if the money is run through them, the seller is forced to just add it to the shipping line rather than provide a detailed breakdown of how you're getting nickel and dimed to death. Clear as mud, huh? Fees to sell on GB:

1) Fee to post advertisement
2) GB collects a percentage based upon sale price
3) Most credit card companies charge a transactional percentage per transaction; typically between, 1.5% - 6%.
4) GB charges a percentage to the seller if you use the GB payment system. Otherwise you'll see sellers that say "Contact Seller for payment". It this case, the seller typically takes a credit card over the phone to avoid the GB fee.

True Shot Ammo and Sportsman's Outdoors have sales pretty regularly on magazines if you're not in a hurry.

P.S. I've had bad luck with aftermarket magazines. Aside from Magpul magazines for my AR, I always buy factory. Yeah, it is sometimes stupidly expensive. But I ask this, how much is your life worth? A failed aftermarket magazine just might get you killed!

Hi,

My needs are usually not all that esoteric so I often wait until one of my regular vendors has free or flat rate shipping. For example, Midway has free shipping once in a while (for orders over $99, sometimes over $75). I've bought more than a few mags there. Shop around and find your deal, then pounce! ;) Yes, shipping charges are a pain.

And that's my profound glimpse into the obvious for today.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

It's not just gunbroker. A lot of vendors want more money to ship than what the item cost and I'm talking just a small item. Shipping via the uspo should be relatively inexpensive, but the vendors insist on shipping in an oversized box for the small item instead of a flat rate poly mailing envelope.

Then to add insult to injury, it takes days (no more 2-3 days priority delivery) to get to the customer. If it even gets there. I've lost three orders in a row because of the inept uspo. Very frustrating.

it may have to do with a flat-rate shipping.

i often buy multiple items to offset the shipping costs...

for instance, when i buy from Cajun Gun Works for any of my CZ's, if it is roll pins of springs, i buy a lot ot them, that offsets the shipping charges.

one time, i only needed 4 roll pins to lock in the firing pin......they cost like a total of $4.00

shipping was $13...so screw that, i ordered more roll pins

i got caught maybe 2 times with a small purchase and much higher shipping costs.....no more gonna be doing that.

An A4 style fixed rear sight, priced at 125 dollars.

They shipped it in a standard USPS Priority mail box, for 25 dollars, and standard Priority Mail shipping is a whole lot less than 25 dollars..........

Never again will I spend money with RRA
That’s just as bad as when I need the safety pin for my 320 x-five legion when it fell out during the removal of the FCU, $9.99 for the pin, $9.99 shipping for a stupid pin from Sig customer service…

And this is why I stick to revolvers ;) :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Because I'm cheap. Come on, it's a tin box with a spring and a couple bits of molded plastic. Heven forbids you are looking for something discontinued. Say Beretta minx magazine. o_OThe gun didn't cost that new for crying out loud. Shipping has gone bat poop crazy and yes some sellers are using that to take just a "little bit" more.

funny you should say revolvers...at the mom/pop bait & gun store, the old man (original owner) was a revolver smith... (going back to the 1940's - 1950's when he started) when he died a couple of years ago, one of his sons was going thru the work station, and found loads of Colt (his specialty) parts still in the factory original boxes or plastic envelopes.

he sold some on eBay

I always use OEM magazines as well. And 30 rd. PMags might as well be OEM for ARs.
