REVIEW OF THE ANDERSON A4 DISSIPATOR

Anderson Manufacturing reached back into M16 lore and coughed up a new take on the Vietnam-era Dissipator concept.

Faux Dissipator: top mid length 16inch, 2nd is a standard 20-inch rifle length pencil, bottom is a true dissipator with a rifle length system on a 16in HBAR

I think the XM177 is the sexiest beast of them all in the M16 family…
One day I’ll make a clone
I kinda thought so too, at one point about 20 years ago. When I built my .22 "fun gun" on a DPMS upper, I went that way with it. After this pic was taken, I put a fake M177 slip-over "moderator" on it, and it looked a little better.

Now it looked and handled a little better, but after giving it a fair trial, I decided I didn't like the telestock AT ALL, and replaced it with a spare A2 stock and buffer I had laying around. ('d have pitched or sold or traded off the telestock, except I realized I might have grandkids someday who'd like to shoot it and would appreciate the shorter length available with it. That day is almost here--my oldest grandson is now 6. His Dad and I are discussing the best time and way to introduce him to shooting, and I'm thinking it will be soon.) It's the middle gun in this pic.

That's pretty cool, if you don't mind spending the extra $$$ (I'm not a rich man) AND bringing yourself to the attention of Uncle. I've decided not to go that route. But good for you! ;)(y)
- uncle knows who has firearms.. dont kid yourself
-$200 each nfa and $425 suppressor is less than I spend on ammo and these items last decades , so its trivial money over a lifetime of use

Point taken. But $625 is more than I have in that whole DPMS .22, and I plan for it to last for decades as well. As I said, I'm not a rich man. ;)

I have Colt 605 rifle built using a Brownells Retro upper, the true original "carbine " was a 15.5 inch barrel with a rifle length gas system. Seems Colt couldn't spare the time to make it work, and the XM177 came later, and did work, but with the associated problems of the abbreviated gas system.
My Brownells clone is reliable to a fault because they worked it until it worked. And oh my does it work.
I've also got a Spikes Tactical Dissy, that's a mid-length gas system and an A2 length sight radius.
Personally, it's either or for me, they're both dead solid reliable.

All I can say is spend your money wisely.
