GIVE YOUR KIDS THE OPTION OF ARMED DEFENSE AS ADULTS

Thanks, Talyn.

I exposed my kids to guns at an early age, but left hunting, shooting, and self defense up to them as adults. My Son follows my footsteps, but my daughter does not care to own guns. She's not against them. She knows their purpose, it's just not for her.

Almost like my wife. Doesn't care for them, but wants to learn to shoot. All 6 of mine (children) loves to shoot!

Good article. I was a LEO when my kids were young, and my department strongly recommended introducing children to firearms as soon as you felt they were emotionally mature enough to handle basic instruction. The Rangemasters believed that most tragedies involving kids and guns started with childish curiosity, and could be avoided by teaching kids to respect firearms at an early age. Almost all of us started our kids shooting at age 6 or 7.

The kids all responded well to being introduced to firearms. I made the deal with my kids that they were never to touch a gun without me being present, and in exchange I would take them out shooting on any weekend they wanted. Neither of my boys have turned into avid shooters, but they are both proficient with firearms, know how to handle them safely, and enjoy occasional shooting trips. We still shoot together on the family land a few times a year and the time I spent working with them when they were young made for some great memories.
