good thing i save all my boxes

Old_Me

SAINT
took my Kimber Custom II to the club and 100 rds of ammo.

i started shooting my reloads first.

about 1/2 way thru the box, i couldn't help but wonder....

"is my front sight missing"?

apparently, the fiber optic rod, decided, it was going out to lunch at 8:30 AM.....

i still did great, even used up my second box, (new) ammo.

so i get home and go thru every gun box i have, and i have all of them.

the Kimber box, actually had 2 rods in it..!! green and red.

then, a S/A box, had rods in it..!! green and red as well, and longer than the Kimber's set.

the Kimber rods came with instructions.....

first timer here, replacing a fiber optic rod.

i used a very old (do you remember Radio Shack??) soldering pencil type iron. (low wattage)

now, i can add a soldering iron to my expanding gunsmithing tool chest.....

i went to MidwayUSA, of course they have rods, but it'll cost me more in shipping than the cost of the rods, so the next order, i'll get a few.

i like having parts on hand.

Yeah, I have one of those pencil soldering irons. Remember Radio Shack?, heck growing up in NJ, I use to travel down to US RT22 to a place called Allied Radio Corporation (probably where I bought the soldering iron). Then in 1970, Radio Shack bought them and the name became Allied Radio Shack. Then in 1973 (after Government Review), they were forced to sell off all of the remaining Allied Radio Corp. stores and their name changed to become Radio Shack (which was now the Store name on Rt22 in NJ, well before Radio Shacks popped up all over the place). Ah the memories (yeah I'm that old 👴🤫).
Anyways, It's good you found Fiber Optics rods Old_Me. I keep all by firearms boxes as well, but I remove all items and place in labeled baggies with Gun model, etc., and place in storage container with other such baggies. That way I don't have to search for the boxes down in the basement and have just one place to search.

Have had that argument with my trophy wife over the empty gun boxes in our closet over and over again. I think it has more to do with the fact I'm using up valuable space she could be filling with shoes.
They make shoe racks you can hang up on the back of the closet door, and besides have you ever see used shoes in orignal boxes at Goodwill? Well, perhaps if it's a $500 pair Jordans.

OMG, ain't no way on God's green earth you are getting my trophy wife in a pair of shoes from Goodwill with or without the box. On a side note, she has two of those hanging racks (both full) and my 3 pair of shoes are not on one of them.

it has gun parts like springs, grip bushings, screws, and much more.. i just put the optic rods in there today as well..

frankly, i didn't think that i'd ever need to replace an optic sight.

and this is an old picture, all the compartments are full.

Depending on your pistol, replacing the front FO rod can be a VERY regular thing. My Ronin goes through them every 300-400 rounds (10mm). The better you get at cutting and melting, the longer they last. Try to leave no front-to-back slide movement in the rod...the more slide the rod has (after melting in place), the quicker it will break. In other words, cut the rod as short as you think you can...

My wife has several women's business suits/dresses, some that sell for over a grand, that she bought at Goodwill for like $30 or something. Many had never been worn.

I save all my boxes, but the various tools and other stuff that comes in them come out and go in a tool drawer in the shop. Except for things like the tools for the Holosun red dots, of which I have multiples. Those I leave the spares in the boxes.

yeah, thanks......i think my Ronin might be missing it's front sight as well....i gotta check that, and buy more FO rods...they are cheap enough, it's the stupid shiping that costs more than the product.>!!!

I always save my boxes and all paper work, now decals……that’s a different story there……..
me too, i apply the stickers to my photo "back drop board"....thankfully, all the backboard (fake) wood comes from an old entertainment shelf unit......who woulda thunk being a photo "back drop board", would be a new form of entertainment..????
