Today, we have the phrases “gun community” and “gun culture.” Can those be used interchangeably? Do they mean the same thing? Does it matter? That all depends on just who you ask.
Well said Sir.Interesting differentiation. I would be curious to find out the breakdown of firearm owners within these groups; that being, how many would consider themselves to be part of the "culture".
My suspicion is that a lot of people who are thoughtful and honest with themselves would realize they meet the criteria for the culture. Not because they are zealous in their love of guns, but because they value their rights and freedom.
If it is viewed more as a philosophical differentiation rather than a physical one (i.e. how many guns do you own) it certainly changes the concept. Like so many of the issues that surround the gun "debate", semantics are tremendously important. I would hope that the "culture" tag could be replaced with something different. Culture is too closely affiliated with cult in the minds of many people.
Within the community you’re bound to find different groups. Casual groups, competitive groups, historical groups, collectors groups, etc. The common denominator is that you are exercising your rights.What about those of us who partially fit in both groups? I guess like Belt Fed said, we are just plain gun nuts!
