America has more civilian-owned guns per capita than any other country in the world. However, only 0.0084% of the country’s estimated 500,000,000 firearms are used to end a human life.

Report Highlights:
  • In the first four months of 2024, there were 5,847 firearm-related homicides, unintentional shooting deaths, and defensive use cases resulting in death, as reported by the Gun Violence Archive.
  • Before May 2024, there were 10,674 firearm-related injuries reported by the Gun Violence Archive, which gathers data from 7,000 newspaper publications.
  • Homicide rates in the United States dropped by 21% from 2022 to 2023, with firearm-related homicides decreasing by 25% during the same period, returning firearm-related homicide rates to pre-2020 levels at 4.7 per 100,000 people.
  • Nationally, there was a 16% decrease in the total number of firearm-related deaths in 2023, with firearm-related suicides declining by 13% and firearm-related homicides dropping by 20%.

Kinda blows both narratives -
Democrat panic over guns.
Trump narrative of increase in violent crimes.
There are violent crimes that don't involve firearms which this report is focused on.

And not all violent crimes involve firearms, like this.

The major difference is that the Dems want gun prohibition for law-abiding citizens.

Your original post - said homicide rates were down regardless of weapon by 21% - with a firearm down 25%

Nice attempt at deflection. My statement backed up by info, clearly said not all violent crimes involve a firearm.

Regardless of the reported rates violent crime still exists, and varies by location such as in big Dem run cities vs. in other parts of the country.

Thanks for the links to the article, Talyn. After reading them, I feel like my head is spinning! Where I live, I believe violent crime is up and that most people in this area would agree. Although, I believe nationwide that the push by the NRA (and others) for states to allow concealed carry and constitutional carry may be helping to drive down violent crime. But, unless I missed it none of the articles got into the “why” violent crime maybe down. Like they say, an armed society is a polite society!
