God how sad. The niece we raised since around 9 was the sweetest, best person I ever met, still is just not as naive. She refused to believe there were monsters in the world no matter how much we told her. And this was a girl that experienced more from an alcoholic and drug addicted mother and father than 500 regular kids. The things she saw and experienced break my heart. Sitting on the couch at 7 or 8 watching while her mother "paid" her drug dealer for her drugs was a lesser evil.
Anyways, when she came back from college we were putting her thru at first break she said, "remember telling me there were monsters?" My wife burst into tear immediately at the look on her face, and all I said "what happened". Thank God nothing truly happened but she was almost abducted on the street, lucky the training I gave her allowed her to pull away. She was always a good student.
Yes Virginia, there is a monster under the bed.
