Have a XDM Elite Tactical OSP WHERE THE THREAD PROTECTOR COMES LOSE

copied this from the "XDTALK" forum - (For those of you with threaded 9mm barrels (ie. OSP) the factory thread protector won't stay tight after a few shots. I picked up a Silencer Co AC6 thread protector and can report it doesn't move. It has a retained o-ring at the muzzle end that does an excellent job. $15 well spent.) and this was posted there Aug 8, 2019

Plumbers Teflon tape works well and a roll can be picked up at any hardware store for under $2.00

You don't need to wrap it around much but I would recommend wrapping it the same direction you would to put on the thread protector as not to unwrap it while installing the protector.

I've used this for mounting a direct thread suppressor and haven't had any issues.

Great tip, would likely prevent carbon build up as well.

Good idea to share that info, thanks 10mm. - I forgot about the teflon tape tip.
Teflon tape is rated up to about 500F. 3 complete stretched fairly snug wraps around threads is pretty standard so thread groves are visible but not actually showing. "O" rings work good sometimes too. Plumbers O-rings are usually rated fairly high temp too, but can depend on mfg's rating. There's also some plumbers "pipe dope" or paste that's rated pretty high, enough for steam pipes in some cases.

There is also a yellow plumber's tape which is rated for gas not that it really matters for where it's being used.
