Duly elected position and Arredondo won. Per ordinance, he was sworn in privately Tuesday.
Unfortunately under the circumstances, many now feel he may not have been the best candidate for the position and it’s up to him, the town and the electorate to decide what’s next.
Tough situation to be in.
In Chicago the mayor appoints the superintendent and essentially the chiefs (we have many at different levels). And the last two have been real doozies going back to 2016. Our crime stats back that up, also the choices the electorate chose to run the city and county offices, theres a common denominator in all these failures. The last two pd supts were appointed for their views - not results, selling decades old strategies to an inept mayor, bending to tender, less confrontational training methods and they are more about Activism than law enforcement.
Uvalde may have been ill prepared, grossly miscoordinated due to communications or they relied on politically corrected (mandated) training protocols (stick to the city’s rules), not limited to the availability of proper equipment and city budget cutting. For instance The Big Guy just signed off on a “historic“ executive order that among other things, promises swift penalties for what the DOJ deems “misconduct“ whether or not it was intended or consequential, it also banishes unused “military equipment“ to go law enforcement.
Easy to blame Chief Pete Arredondo, he sits in the hot seat. But as the media and Dems put that blame not just to the police, but the gun store, the gun manufacturer, the laws, the governor and essentially the state of Texas, the school administrators just sit back.
