The Mighty Mau Deuce - the M2 .50-caliber Machine Gun

While several new machine guns are trying to replace the M2, the Ma Deuce seems to be eternal. It was once said that the last soldier to use the M2 hasn’t even been born yet.

When I attended instructor training on the M2 in 1971 I was in hog heaven because we had a truckload of ammo to use. We had them on the air base perimeters and on a few deuces and M113's in SEA. They inspired confidence. Glad to see they have improved the barrel change.

Wish I had a penny for every round I fired on the old Ma Deuce, would have a nice nest egg.

Still have my old headspace & timing gauge. I used to use it as a keychain, but with all my keys, it was not so comfortable carrying it in my pocket. It just sits in a drawer unused these days. But it still brings back great memories.

My memory has gotten fuzzy, been 60 years since I went to Vietnam. I recall using go-no go gauges for timing but we screwed the barrel in tight and backed off two clicks for headspace.
