Hellcat OSP front site is dead

I just got my Hellcat OSP and maybe I'm just expecting too much for such a small tritium vial, but I'm pretty sure it's dead. In total darkness, there is nothing there. That little barely-there dot you can see below my index finger is the front sight. Truthfully, I couldn't even see it when I took the picture, so my phone's camera is better than my eyes. I know a dead tritium vial happens with these sights, so I'm not super upset, but I was just wondering if anyone else has had an issue?

I had a LONG wait to get this thanks to our illustrious postal system and I really don't want to have to ship it in for a front sight. I've never dealt with Springfield CS, do you think they'd ship me the sight to install myself?

So I’m confused. I don’t own a Hellcat and won’t buy one but about this vial?
Does it have a battery? I find that hard to believe.
 
No batteries, just a few micrograms of a radioactive hydrogen isotope—tritium—in a glass vial.

Sometimes the vials can break in installation, or the vial was a “dud” from the factory. I had a couple of Sigs with that issue, Sig just sent me the sights.

It’s possible SA will ship the sight, but more than likely, they’ll want to do the install. The nice thing is that you can just send them your slide, saves a lot of hassle.

I got the optional tritium front sight for my XDS MOD 2. That is probably the brightest front sight I have seen. If they are using similair for the Hellcat, the one you have is surely defective. I would definitely give SA a call. (I think) SA's customer service is top notch.
 
I surely would not hesitate to call Springfield's customer service. If they do want you ship it back,I wouldnt worry. Its a fairly painless process and they provide a label, insured, the whole 9. And a decent turnaround

Like Jeff said above they are very nice and responsive. Having sent a couple back for maintenance I’ll agree it’s a very painless process.

I sent the slide off and they received it on Monday5-4-20. I called on Friday and was quoted an average repair time of 2 to 4 weeks! A front sight should only take 10-15 minutes max to change out. I can't say that I'm too impressed by Springfield's speed when it comes to simple repairs.

Why do you assume yours is the only repair they have?

I’m sure they take them in the order received...and it will take 10-15 minutes, when it’s your pistol’s turn to be worked on.
 
They should stay bright for years I have Colt 1911 commander with 30-year-old tritium sights and they still glow but they are very dull but you can see them in total darkness.

I don't assume that I'm the only customer. You know what assuming does. But still, 2 to 4 weeks to change out a front sight is a bit on the excessive side.

No assumption made. I stated my opinion that 2 to 4 weeks is excessive for a 10-minute repair. If I had some sort of inside knowledge on the number of techs they had and their workload, which I don't, it would be an assumption. You have yourself a great day.

One week for a 10min repair is reasonable, very reasonable. Frigg'n fanboys. You know, if I had to call myself a fanboy of any gun company, it would be Ruger. I've bought and owned more Ruger's over the decades than any other brand. Yet, I am not afraid to say that Ruger's quality control has gone to hell over the last decade or so. It has come down to quantity over quality with them.

I bought their .22LR GP-100 as soon as it came out, it sucked. I had to send it in and it was so bad they had to replace the whole gun! It never should have made it out of the factory. The replacement has also been back to the factory and it still isn't right. I have an SR-556 that cost me a ton since I got it not too long aster Sandy Hook. The trigger in it is terrible, below milspec in every sense. The point I'm trying to make to you is that you can be a fanboy if that's your thing, and still admit that there are problems. I think Hellcat is an awesome gun, I have no complaints about it or any other Springfield product I own or have used. But they need to step it up a bit on the speed of their repairs. It's my hope that the slide comes back much, much, sooner. Heck, maybe I'll get the shipping notice tomorrow, who knows. But to give a customer a time frame that outrageous for a simple repair is not good. It could easily lead one to believe that they don't have enough techs or they have such a quality issue that they are falling behind on repairs due to the number of returns they are getting. I don't believe there is a quality issue, so I'm going to say they should hire more techs.

Actually, with the increased shipping times across the board, the 2-4 week estimate is probably more than fair. Did you factor that in? You would prefer they told you one week, but you didn’t get it for 2-3? Better they are honest, no?

And I’m amused you call me a fanboy; the only weapon I own with “Springfield“ on it is from the original—a 1944 Garand.

No, you are coming across as having a rather entitled attitude more than anything else. They need to work within YOUR timeframe, not theirs...and that’s not how it works.
 
Most companies give you a standard timeline even if something is quicker. Under promise and over deliver. They tell you two weeks and get it back to you quicker. second thing to consider is that they may not be a full workforce capacity. 3rd they may be waiting for the next shipment of sights from the manufacture. Look every distributor in the firearms industry is at least a month out shipping orders for anything. They are that behind. Instead of attacking others for being fanboys and displaying childish behavior, realize that your gun is being fixed and it will be back as soon as they could get it to you.

You are the only one looking bad dead eye With this virus thing and shutdowns in certain states, you should expect it will take a few weeks you are not the only one getting something repaired gave Springfield a chance they do stand behind their product.I would be more than happy to buy your Hell Cat OSP 9MM with its dead Tritium front sight They sell out of them as fast they hit the shelf they are very hard to find.
