Hellcat Pro + Comp - Is this damage normal for a threaded barrel?

Hello, Is this amount of damage normal?

I have been running the Springfield threaded barrel and self-indexing comp for about 6 months on my hellcat pro. I have taken some all day classes with it and go to the range roughly every 2 weeks or so with it, and clean/oil things up about every 3 trips.

I shoot it comped 95% of the time, mostly with 115-124g FMJ. There is some wiggle/play with how the self-indexing comp works, so I think that the very end of it is probably just taking some abuse from the comp and from the impact blast?

(Pic attached, I took the sharpest/closest macro shot I could so some details dust look exaggerated, but it shows what I am talking about well)

I concur; that’s leading & carbon fouling.

Remember that FMJ have exposed lead at the base of the bullet which sublimes when exposed to the burning powder, and will condense in ports, etc, mixing with carbon.

You can chuck the chore boy/copper wool into a drill and go at low speed to remove it as well. Wet the area thoroughly with a good solvent (Kroil is great), and keep the patch wet.

You can switch to a TMJ/plated bullet to alleviate this. CCI Blazer is one of the more common examples of this type.

Just wanted to say, "Welcome to the forum!" I'm glad your gear is dirty and not broke. ;)

Don't feel like you're alone. Lately I've gotten lazy and started to clean my range toys every 3rd or 4th trip. But I keep my EDC fairly spotless. :)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Thanks everyone, appreciate the helpful feedback, I'll try the solvent and pot scrubbers first and then move up to the slow drill if needed.

I'll also make it a point to clean more often, though I don't know if it will help keep this down as its probably going to keep carbonizing whatever build up there even during one range trip I suspect, it only happens with the comp, no issue with the thread protector or non-threaded barrels.
