Hello .. new guy with a question 1911A1 9mm

Very nice site... new here ... lots of info
question is.... I just picked up a 1911A1 that was built in 1989 (just checked)
it has Bo-mar rear sight , ambi safety , ext. slide release , no bump on the grip safety , no front slide serrations..
it has a EGW barrel and a front site that was dovetailed in from the front....
how do I tell how it left the factory...IE: just how much was it changed since it was built...

Thanks , green grunt

Welcome aboard! I've owned several 1911s, but I am not an expert in this area. There are plenty of folks here that will help you out.

Have you tried to call Springfield’s customer service and see if they can trace the serial# down and tell you what it came from the factory? Just a thought, nice gun though.

Thanks... yep...just got an e-mail telling me when it was built , but not how it left the factory (yet) , I know the EGW barrel and front sight are not standard , I have an E-mail in the works to EGW (George) trying to get a little more info on how much work they did , He stated they have not done any custom work in over a dozen years , story is...it came from a San Fran Sheriff that sent it to EGW for some custom work....
it's still in jail (Calif.10 day hold)...

I would say quite a bit of work. The safety and slide release are definitely aftermarket as well...likely the grip safety is, too.

Odds are it was a plain-Jayne A1 that was bought to be a platform for custom work; possibly the only original parts are the slide & frame.

"That would have been manufactured with the standard 1911 sight cuts such as a Mil Spec sight cuts."

just got a reply from SA customer service.. ^ ... good call... it looks like it was a plan jane and got a fancied up .... hope it shoots well (?!)... I may lose the ambi safety and ext. slide release , the grips are factory and have the ambi cut in them , don't know if the custom shop did that or not... much to learn;)

If I decide to change out the ambi safety and ext. slide stop....where can I get Factory parts to replace these , I will have to live with the slide and maybe the grip safety.....don't know for sure what the internals are like yet , pick up this weekend and then a break down and cleaning is in order...
