HEX Dragonfly clipped its wings

Ok got this from SA on my 5” 1911 DS Prodigy. I had an SRO on my last comp gun but the mount for that cost an extra $130 so I decided to roll with the HEX .

Well… 2k rds later it let me down . Was going thru a pistol drill called “dot torture “ and it just cut off 24rds in !?!

I stepped off the line cleared the gun and finger ****ed it for few minutes and it wouldn’t turn back on !

So I shot irons for 10rds and suddenly the dot re-appears!?!

This is not good for any gun you want the dot to be there when you need it .
(Please save your Irons FTW comments for another thread ) 😂

Has anyone else had this happen and how was the experience dealing with HEX for repair or replacement?

I pulled it off and found the contact around the edge of the battery was not great , I saw a guys YouTube saying he had the same issue new out of box . Mine is only 2months old .

For now I ordered the correct plate from SA to mount the SRO , but I may also borrow a Vortex Viper to temp use with current mounting plate . Haven’t decided yet .

Thx for looking any and all advice is appreciated 🇺🇸

First of all I am surprised the "optic" stayed on the gun at all. My 5" Prodigy will not hold on to an optic for more than 150 rounds from day one. SA and I have entered a relationship of sending the firearm (and I use that term loosely), back and forth to one and other. I am struggling with why someone would put aside a top of the line compitition Trijicon SRO for an unproven Hex Dragonfly. The Prodigy itself is an unpredictable, less than acceptable pistol. The SA AOS system has serious flaws. I own several SA 1911 45 acp handguns and they have run like a scalded dog out of the box. Perhaps the rush to enter the 1911 double stack market called for a few shortcuts. I have even more concern for those currently buy the new AOS lineup pistols as they use the same plates and screws. I have since replaced my Prodigy with a much more proven option. It seams that you ( and many others ) are learning the same lesson that I did. Sorry for your trouble with the Prodigy friend but they are just the beginning. Wait until it starts to dump two or more rounds with each trigger pull like mine does. Disclamer.. My 5" Prodigy is completely stock with the exception of EGW flgr and Dawson magwell and SRO.

I saw you post about the trouble in my other thread , not sure if you saw my “fix” for plate screws but it’s holding up nicely after red loctite and using a punch to “Lock in” the screws by staking them .

As for skipping the SRO from day one , I was planning on swapping it at some point if the HEX was a dud
My mistake for giving the HEX a chance lesson learned ! My old eyes prefer a bigger window anyhow .

I’m over 2k rds and have only added EGW slide release , one piece guide rod kit and mag well . Have I had issues ? Yes earlier on it was not going into battery and that’s BS but I heard so much about it I wasn’t surprised and shoot thru to now it’s running flawlessly with a **** poor optic 😂

Sorry yours has been such a PITA must’ve been built on a Friday afternoon

Yes sir, SA says my born on date is May 2024 still working on it I guess. 2 pounds of scrap metal if you ask me. I am not new to firearms, I do not think my experience with the Prodigy is unique. I also think that at the price point assigned that I should not need to bring a hammer and punch into the picture to make it perform as advertised.
I am sure you would agree that when buying a new handgun having a list of expected fixes does not come into play, why spend the dollars on a P.O.S. ?

Prodigy pains brother, mine is going back to SA on monday. I do not want it back. It will be for sale the minute I get it back if you are interested.

I get it, just needed to rant. Extremely disappointed with my experience with the Prodigy. Do I feel better, no, will I move foward, yes.
It was a $1400.00 purchase that I might get $800.00 in return.
Not to mention 2 extra 20 round mags and magwell etc....just burns my biscuit.

I get it. Taking an L like that to move on from something that has just been a bad experience is always that last kick in the nads on the way out. Happened to me with my Saint Victor .308 - Which was also my first rifle.

Bought 7 or 8 Springfields since then and have had no issues with them. Sometimes you just get a lemon.
