Hornady introduced the 22 Creedmoor cartridge in exclusive partnership with Horizon Firearms, and it may be the best long-range, predator cartridge ever.

In 2023 Hornady submitted the 22 Creedmoor to SAAMI, legitimizing it.

Based on a necked-down 6mm Creedmoor case, the 22 Creedmoor joins other current .22 centerfire cartridges, including (from left) .223 Remington .224 Valkyrie, 22 Nosler, .22-250, 22 Creedmoor, and .220 Swift.

All short action. 473" bolt faced cartridges will be a barrel burner. 22creed is the upper class 22-250ai. Then again a 264wm is supposed to be a barrel burner also and yet I've shot 2.5k thru it. Barrels are expendable like brakes on vehicles. As far as ultimate, 223rem is just fine.

I all depends on how hot you load things.

I never went with a .22-250 for my Region since we typically have high winds and a .22-250 typically isn't built for heavier bullets, so I originally used a 6mm Rem, although I do have a "Walking Varminter" bolt gun in .223.

But now I use a 6mm Creedmoor which shoots amazingly well with soft recoil.

The .22 Creedmoor is essentially the modern interpretation of the 22 Newton.

Isn't the 22 Newton a rimmed case? I plan on going 22 and 6 br for AR-15's. Just want something in a shorter cartridge and get close to short action performance.

No, its rimless. Based off the 7x57.

I think you're thinking about the 22 Savage that C. Newton also invented.

Despite what the industry would have you believe there’s really not much “new and improved” out there. Todays latest and greatest rounds all come in similar in performance to the stuff that’s already been around for a long time. They “may” (but usually don’t) offer a slight edge in velocity, but only at the expense of much higher operating pressures. Physics hasn’t changed, and until those laws are repealed the ONLY way to higher performance is via higher pressures. Example-5.7 X 28. Look at the little beast. It’s basically a .22 Hornet in new clothes🙄

What has changed about the creed line is a faster twist to work with heavy bullets per caliber and a longer throat. All someone has too do is get a custom barrel w/ faster twist. That's what I did for my 264wm going w/7.5 twist to shoot everything 140 (excluding older spitzer bullets) and up.

I bet it is a great predator cartridge, it ought to be smokin. My 6mm Creed is supposed to be a "barrel burner" so this definitely has to be but barrels are replaceable.
