Houthis attack cargo ship; US Navy retaliates

Unfortunately in typical US fashion they will continue to pussyfoot around the whole thing. They will act defensively, but they will do nothing proactive. Like send fighter jets to rock the Houthis into compliance. Which is what should happen.

Where are the Saudis in all this? 1) They hate the Houthis and fought against them in the past, 2) The Saudis know this is really part of a proxy war between them and Iran, who they also can't stand, and 3) This attempt at a shipping blockade in the Red Sea has a direct impact on the export of Saudi oil.

And yet I haven't heard of them taking any action to date?

Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a badass Navy. Hell, we have a badass military. My brother in law is a C130 pilot. He is the XO of his squadron, and towards the end of next year he will be the CO of his squadron. He started out as a Seahawk pilot, and saw some action against pirates, as well as search and rescue and ASW. He is in his late 30s and already a Commander. And, from what I understand from his flight instructor in Helo school, he is one of the best. Couldn't be any prouder.

After what this administration pulled in Afghanistan, would you put yourself out there like that?

I'd expand that to include the last several Administrations, who were stupid enough to accept the lies of those in command, and create no consequences for those leaders once the lies were obvious.

But regardless, the Saudis could act on their own in retaliation here, it's literally their backyard.

The Persians have been attempting to isolate the Arabian Peninsula for decades. There have been terror attacks/sabotage of oil pipelines and facilities in Jubail on the coast of the Persian Gulf and Yanbu on the coast of the Red Sea. These are the terminals of a pipeline running between the two coasts.

The Houthis have been firing Scuds into Saudi Arabia for years and we have supplied them with Patriots and training. They are fairly successful in intercepting missiles. Both the regular army and the Saudi National Guard rotate troops to the Yemeni border.

Iran even moved border outposts with Iraq after we invaded. I.e., moved them to give themselves more land. Iran has been killing US troops in Iraq for years either by their Shia militia proxies, supplying them with 107mm rockets, or shipping special presses to manufacture explosively formed projectile IEDs. I've been on the receiving end of the 107s and our great leaders' responses are laughable like "let's fly some F-16s over their neighborhoods, that'll show 'em."

Iran has remained virtually untouchable through succeeding administrations since 9-11 and among the military yahoos in the Imperial City and I would be guessing as to why. Sorry for the rant but I'm afraid this latest response was Ok'd because they are the proxies. Going after the root cause is off the table I'd wager.

Yup, I'm well aware of all that. It was somewhat of a rhetorical question, because I have a pretty good idea why SA is trying to appear to be staying out of it. Still, the silence is noticeable.

I think you are spot on. The pressure has been building for a long time and our enemies, and enemies of Israel, sense weakness in American leadership
yup
saudis are simply branches that sway in the direction that protects them. they have no alliance to any one or country and will even go against other arabs
trump got them to the table by undercutting their economy
they need at the time 85 dollar oil to maintain their economy and that why they came to the table with the Abraham accords etc
yemen is a weigh station of terrorists with no home, all the bad actors control them based on who has the dollars.

QATAR, UAE, etc are the same. QATAR plays both sides as they are really a bunch of chicken craps

biden, could in a fast way cripple all those with opening of the oil spigots to feed the world oil. we are pumping huge amounts of oil now, but we are not controlling the market like we did under trump.

IRAN knows we are weak and biden is paid for, his advisors are pro IRAN.
so the jackels see a point of weakness and will keep poking that sore spot.
we either hand them their rear ends or capitulate....biden is doing the later. only recently has he allowed a fight back approach of engagement
he needs to do what clinton ( omg), and Reagan did with scorched earth on the small fast attack boats...no survivors and not boats...all go boom
we sank hundreds of dows (sp) and go fast vessels during the reflagging of oil tankers and other commercial ships.

they burn a long time, right up until they go under.

its past time to remove the gloves. we also need the land of the queen to get off thier dairy aire. but our allies, also see us as wishy washy and are hesitant to take more of a stand.

And that goes both ways. The EU is largely a joke at this point and can't be counted on for anything. They have been just as wishy-washy as the U.S. recently, if not more so. And at the rate things are going, I'm not sure the EU will even exist in a decade. The Brits were right to Brexit, and could see where this was all headed. What we really need to be doing is cultivating and solidifying our allies in SE Asia, imo.
