How to Buy a Gun

I enjoy the articles on the basics and have been looking them over with a fine tooth comb. That being said, great job on teaching the basics that a lot of people assume you know if you have a gun in your hand. I remember my first days at my local range, me and my Colt Govt. Model .45. I had no clue what some of the oldtimers were talking about. Now being one of those oldtimers, I try to pass on my experience to those in need. I do enjoy introducing new shooters to our sport. So what I'm getting at is, thanks for teaching those that need taught. You do a good job.

I think everyone is producing as much as possible...but it doesn't meet demand. Nor does it match normal output rates because of supply-chain shortages. EVERY industry is shorthanded right now due to "distancing" requirements. Less ore means less steel, lead, and brass. Less steel, lead, and brass available to the manufacturers means fewer slides, frames, bullets and casings being produced. Combine all that, with massively increased demand...and you buy what you can get your hands on.

It's like American Pickers - "the time to buy something...is when you see it".

You are correct, I was looking at bulk ammunition sites for 5.56/.223 one site a large amount but pricy, while I was looking at other sites and found nothing I went back to the site that had some and it was gone, 🤦‍♂️ 20 minutes tops.

I was quite impressed by the article. State laws vary so much that a lot of these articles either often a bare minimum of useful information, or present information that can be completely incorrect depending on where you live. I really wish there was enough ammo to accommodate all of the new gun owners, but I'm still glad to see them. Hopefully, we will see an increase in pro 2A voters.

before i read the article and then the remarks
i had already created answer, but now i guess it really depends on how screwed the state is that you reside
so my final answer to how to buy a gun, is
go to gun store
ask clerk for the one you want to ensure its available
say YES
give clerk the carry license, and debit or credit or cash
fill out dumb form
wait 10 minutes for clerk to ring it up
leave store, go home and take a few pics and post em up here like a boss

How? Read a story about some random arm, convince yourself how great that would fit into your fantasy life. Stew on the use case scenario’s, plan hunts, explore exotic locations and species.

Trip over one of the 20 fantasy guns at the local house of delights. Drive that hard bargain channeling your inner C - Store proprietor. Let the man have his way with your credit card, submit to government over reach. Plan a covert operation worthy of a made for TV movie, to cover insertion of the new gun into the safe. Now you accessorize, even GI Joe needed upgrades.

Start to finish, to buy a handgun in nj it takes about 8-10 weeks! No bs. Apply for handgun permit at the state level and wait for their background check. Then wait for local police background check. Then wait for county mental health background check. Then wait for nics background check (in nj it’s not instant like it says in the name).
That is why i have more rifles than hand guns. Long guns only require the nics check.

I thought Illinois was bad. Have to have a FOID card (background check before even getting a firearm), to go get a pistol it’s present the card and do another background check through the state police ( hopefully their system is working properly), wait 72 hours (I’ve had my background check go past 72), then it’s making sure nothing has changed investigation of 72 hours, and then I walk out the door.
