How many remember………

How many remember the Taurus Groucho single action revolver? The one I handled years ago seemed very well made with a decent trigger.

Friend gave me a .45 LC, Beretta Stampede

You rang?

In the CAS crowd, they didn't take. I'm not sure if they had issues or if they decided they weren't profitable. It's hard to beat a Ruger, Uberti or Pietta single action. Taurus also developed a lightning pump rifle. The concept was good, but most didn't run and was soon dropped. They still make an 1892 lever gun that they took over from Rossi.

You sound like you have experience with the guns in question and offer considered advice. Great post! We need more of this kind of thing around here. ;)

I vaguely remember the Gaucho from a couple of magazine articles many years ago. I don't think I've ever seen one in person. Just didn't seem to catch on for some reason. Maybe price was a factor, but I don't remember what they sold for.
Never cared much for Venterino's writing. He's knowledgeable enough, but about as interesting as watching paint dry. And he lost all credibility with me when he started calling himself "Duke".

USFA made high quality revolvers, some said were equal or better than Colt. Despite their popularity, they went out of business. If you find them for sale, their prices may exceed those of 3rd generation Colt SAA. Many other makers have gone to Boot Hill (shotgun, rifle, pistol), but overall, quality is much better than it was 20 years ago.

A good friend of mine bought a pair of Gauchos for CAS and both were junk, which was consistent with my experience with Taurus in general. I know a few guys who had Gauchos and they worked for a while with some work but they did not have a good reputation within CAS circles. Ruger Vaqueros and New Vaqueros are a much higher quality revolver for the money.

I know we have some Taurus fans here and I don't mean any offense, but my past experience with the brand has put me off of them
