How to Sharpen a Knife to a Razor’s Edge

Yes I learned how to do it by hand. But when you have these why take all day to do it? These will get your knives scalpel sharp in less than 10 minutes.

Highly recommended
I used the regular work sharp knife sharpener for years. When it wore out from years of use I stepped up and very very glad I did. The range of sharpening belts in the 3/4" x 18" is infinite.

I got into knife sharpening about two years ago and I still consider myself a definite novice. I have the portable version of the Work Sharp field sharpener and it's been great as a learning tool. It has a fine cut sharpening surface, a ceramic rod for honing and a leather surface for honing even further, which I'm still getting the hang of. Having said that, I very much like to sharpen knives. There's definitely a lot of skill and practice involved and I've gone thru every knife I own and sharpened all the kitchen knives to the point I got yelled at by my boss to stop making the kitchen knives "sharp enough to kill someone with"....Isn't that the point??

Thats an impressive machine. !
I may just have to order one of those

I do pretty well just by hand with some nice Japanese water stones. I also have a good strop which I use for my straight razors, but I don't generally use it for my knives. I have a steel.

For the record, I send my straights out to be sharpened and honed. It's $25 and they do a much better job than I would. I do strop it before I use it every time though.

They make leather belts for the Ken Onion attachment I seen, but I've never used. I did use a 6000 grit belt and it seemed to really bring out that last bit of sharpness. I'll freely admit I've never played with or have tried to sharpen a straight razor. My closest was a CRKT Razel. I carried one at work to slice thick cardboard boxes. They are big honkin knives but boy can you murder some boxes 😜.
The end is sharpened as well and that 90° bend between the front and belly is wicked sharp.
Here's a link to one on the auction site. They seem to ask a lot for them now. I bought two for $50 each. Wow!!
I have one NIB and still wouldn't sell it for their asking price. CRKT also made one that didn't fold.
