i hate working on or in "This Old House"

Old_Me

SAINT
well, 2 times a year....and NOOoooooo i will NOT do it monthly, i don't care what the instructions say......

i had to vacuum out all the smoke detectors in this house....and for those of you that don't recall, i have a 3 family house, with a basement...front hall, and rear hall.....

that means at the very least.....35 detectors that have to be cleaned........

so, do you think imma gonna go thru this :poop: monthly now..????

the third floor apartment, i don't need a step ladder....good for me

the second floor apartment i need a step ladder, and only the first step

the first floor apartment, i need the step ladder and to the second step i go........all 7 rooms.

the basement, i don't need the step ladder.

1 very long extension line, gets 1 whole apartment, and front and back halls done.

but, wind up, unwind that extension line 4 times........and lug the mini vac, hose, all around.

carry step ladder all around....

i must be due for 27 naps right now

wife saw my "to do list" earlier with her coffee and oatmeal

somehow, she found a way to go to one of our daughters house..........

i hate many things right now

1) this old house

2) working IN or ON this old house

3) freezing, dropping from the tree's iguanas....and i don't even live in Florida

4) missing my early morning nap

5) making an appointment online at the AAA office to get my drivers license renewed.....

Cavemen didn’t have smoke detectors and they survived.

Come to think of it I don’t have smoke detectors. Meh.
city code

i had to have major electrical work done.

city inspector came to...inspect the work

found that i had the battery operated ones...

said, "code says, when you have ANY major electrical work, you MUST install wired in detectors, as per code".

"cha-ching....$7,000 extra"..

or get a daily $100 fine, until it's done.

and the city will get their kickback from the electrician that did the work or get paid directly by fining you $100/day. see how that works?
criminals.

the contractor was pissed that the inspector went too far. he even found a couple of things in my basement, and made note of them...cost me extra to have those taken care of, on top of the $11,000 i was already paying for the original work...

the inspector was only to inspect the work done, not go "snooping around" ...this is yet another of the reasons why i hate owning a home nowadays. this is why i hate having contractors over......permits are needed for everything.

and there is no set cost for a permit, here, they charge per the overall pricing of the job!!!!

i pity all the younger people, having to pay well over $500, 000 (and up) for a house nowadays

the wife and i only paid $155,000......

i failed to mention, the fire dept got in on this as well

the electrical contractor, had to submit diagrams of each floor, front and rear hallways and locations of each new detector, and submit those to the fire marshall. the fire marshall added 1 extra detector, which to me and the contractor made no sense as it was basically "doubling up" in one area..in other words, 1 detector was at the bottom of the basement stairs, the other was at the top........but that's what we had to do.

anyway, after the city inspector did his job, again, and found nothing wrong this time, the fire dept sent an inspector as well.

one good thing here however, was that there was NO CHARGE for the fire dept's input/inspection.

and also, i at least did not have to have it wired into the fire dept directly.

As the bluesy "Guv'ment" song (John Goodman as Pap Finn) sung in the Broadway musical "Big River":

Well-ell-ell-ell-ell, Ya dat gum guv'ment, you sorry sons-a-b*****s
Ya got yer damn hands in every pocket of my britches.
Well ya dat gum, dat gum, dat gum guv'ment, uh-huh-huh
Lord don't ya know-oh-oh-oh, don't ya love 'em sometimes!

There are 4 more verses and some spoken lines, all very true and funny as well. I sing the entire song at the piano often and play the CD in the car a lot. Tempting as it might be, not a good idea to play the song during a traffic stop, or in Old Me's case, when the inspector is in your house! :ROFLMAO:
