The Govt will always ride the line on its citizens. Always has. Always will.
Hoover started the trend and its persisted ever since.
Just depends on who is in power at the time.
Lets face it. Govt doesnt trust its citizens and the citizens dont trust the Govt. One of the imperfections of our system of governance and elections.
Govt has proven it cannot be trusted and certain citizen groups have proven they cannot be trusted with their ill intent rhetoric and actions.
Way it goes
Just have to call out the ill in Govt and rid it of the cancer at that time and wait till it grows again to repeat.
Same can be said of its citizens.
Example: a couple working for the Navy was selling Nuke Sub secrets to China.
Likewise, the Govt wants to remove us of our 2A liberties…

What is ATF collecting? Illegal data. When told to cease and desist, they'll keep right at it. Letter government entities use their power against the people. IRS against conservatives. CIA operating within US. FBI against parents and others. It will continue until it doesn't. I've not seen this level of government against the people ever. We began this whole experiment as government by and for the people and here we are.

Ouch! Nothing personal to anyone Ann; who has a problem? Certainly not I.
What I mean is the majority of members here are not so concerned or well informed
about such things as run away law breaking by the US Intel community, Government
intrusion/over reach in citizens lives, so called "news" media little more than a conduit
for propaganda and loss of meaning/right of our Constitution. And Spiritual decay of
the nation/culture. Stuff like that.

I think most of us are concerned. Short of joining some " patriot militia" and getting the FBI all up in our business what exactly do you propose we do about it ? I mean everyone knows the government is full of lying corrupt bastards and whatever it is we think they're doing, what they are actually doing is about 100 times worse. No one here, from either side of the aisle, thinks the media actually contains journalists. Of course they are lying to us. Of course they are corrupt. Of course we are on an inevitable ride to armageddon. I love my country and my way of life, but I ain't martyring myself to go off on some misguided, ridiculous, doomed expedition to root out the evil in the government.
Maybe some of us figure the best thing we can do is keep our heads down and our mouths shut. I'd like to say we speak with our vote, but that whole system is a sham too. I still vote, but I am under no illusion that it matters that much. Best we can do is make sure we got our backs covered as best we can.

I respect the method that anyone chooses to oppose restrictions on our rights and intrusions on our privacy. That has to be personal choice. Head down and mouth shut? Not my style and a good way to get run over, IMO. Concerned and informed/naive are not the same. Most reactions will depend on what I/you/we have to lose. I'm not criticizing, only doing my part to raise awareness.

My first question is, how did we get here? Does it really matter? Yes, if only to identify the "perpetrators" and to stifle any more of their conquests.
My next question is, what can I do about it? To each his own, but I will continue to support individualism, liberty and the Constitution. I may be missing a few, but I will fight tooth and nail to keep the things that have made America great.

Trying to grasp your point. Not so many on this forum (or anywhere) have an awareness of just how far our liberties have receded and how totally invasive our privacy has been violated.

The government is filled with people, and people have a strong tendency to have a higher opinion of themselves than is warranted. We need to stay informed and take appropriate action. It might be a good idea for a few of us to band together so we could hire someone to keep an eye on government to be sure government bounds are not overstepped. Oh wait..;.

Youngold, we got here because your neighbors (other American citizens) were not so concerned, and did not notice, had little discernment when Uncle tightened the chains, little by little. Freedom, that is only enough to earn as much $$ as they like, and have the lifestyle they enjoy, and the trinkets they hold so dear, and the "friends" that believe their BS meets their needs. And they will accept any offense by Uncle and his crew and his agencies if they will just allow them to continue as is.......opps........the chain got shorter.....and yet they did not notice. The Perps then, are by the tens of millions, in Government employment or "service", the other millions that don't mind losing their freedoms and sending yours and mine with it, and millions more that believe entertainment "news", and so many more that do not know who they are voting for, believe the campaign lies, or don't vote at all. The "perps" then are everywhere; in politics, in the media, on Wall Street, down the street, down your street and mine, and some on this forum and every place of communication you can find. Couple definitions: In this case, a Perpetrator" is anyone who is naive, unaware, non discerning or has priorities that they think are more important than the Constitution of this country. Freedom or Liberty: And by liberty, I mean the ability to think for yourself, make your own un-augmented decisions about life, pursue un-official knowledge, entertain dissenting opinion, pursue actual scientific discourse, exercise free-association, and make medical decisions by informed consent on the principle of the Hippocratic Oath, by a transparent Government (whoa there! when has that been?) all with a Spiritual Perspective.
