If things don't change, this could be the trend

Hi,

Good Lord, have mercy. What a series of cascading bad decisions. But I can see where feckless DAs, bad policy, ineffective enforcement, quick release, lack of accountability, and lax punishments could lead to vigilantism. Let's hope this isn't a new widespread trend. Sure, you can have your revenge but you'll likely pay the price.

Thank you for your indulgence,

let's "say" it's a parent....many parents would sacrifice (pay the price) their own well being (and go to jail) for their children even up to sacrificing their own lives. i'll call it, "protecting and deep love" for their off spring(s).

no parent (i know i can't) stand by and let this go. whether it be sexual abuse, rape, assault, murder...any crime against their child, a parent "can snap" and do something drastic....or is it called..."diminished capacity"?

we are generally protective for and of our family.

Honestly, this story is not exactly clear on details all the way around. Sue enough a 22 yr old sexually molested a 12 yr old, but what was she doing there, where were the parents? My wife works with abused kids and it’s amazing how much culpability there is, and more often than not, these kids are victimized by parents who pimp them out, turn a blind eye to obvious abuse or even take part in said abuse. And then there are the disturbed kids who willingly take part in the abuse because any attention is better than none. When I read that story, with the experiences I’m aware of, I think there’s a good chance that everyone got what they had coming - except for the child who probably has a life of state intervention coming until she’s 18.

hey, the legal system protects the guilty..

this is why i say, got the chance..?? blast'em....then have your lawyer plead "diminished capacity"

we CAN BE judge, jury, executioners.
Diminished capacity nearly never works. I can't say how I would react if it was my wife or daughter. Likely violently because I would be overcome with grief and rage, but if I killed the dude I would expect to be going to prison for murder, because that's what would happen. And in reality I think I'd rather see the guy go to prison. Rapists, especially child rapists, generally have a really bad time in prison.

You can't be judge, jury and executioner unless you are okay with going to prison.

I won't say whether right or wrong, but I will say it seems more and more folks are getting fed up with our poor legal system as it is today, and are taking things into their own hands. We, as a society has generally progressed away from vigilantism, but at the same time I think the legal system has moved away from real justice to more technicalities.

You said it right there Old_Me, we do have a 'legal' (technicalities) system these days, and less and less a system of 'justice' (right/wrong). Why we've gotten to this point can still be debated, but the fact we're here is pretty iron clad. Not sure I want to go back to the days of vigilantism, but I'd sure like to see our 'legal' system take a sharp turn to the right.

DA'a and others have various reasons for the lax interpretation/enforcement of laws today. Some are just so far left they can't accept that the lax enforcement is a big cause of what we're seeing today, so they don't bring charges. Some, are major looking forward to higher political positions and do not want a record of losses on their resume. Others truly our system is unfair at the roots and should be changed. Since they are not in position to actually force change, they make whatever changes they can in their own world.

That last line pretty much says it all!
