Installing a red dot on my Prodigy

Guys, I know that the red dot mount that came with my Prodigy will work with the Vortex Viper as well as a few other brands. I own a Vortex Venom which I had thought about removing from another pistol. The foot print is the same on both models, but the venom is slightly taller in the back and wondering if anyone has used a Venom and was able to co/witness with it on a Prodigy.
Any thought or experience doing this?

I don’t know about the Prodigy but the Venom has a notch on the back that simulates a rear sight. It won’t co-witness on my Q5 Match though. So if I were guessing I would say no.

If by "co-witness" you mean the ability to see both your front and rear iron sights through the Venom's optic window have the ability to use them as BUIS - I'd say it's marginal. I have a Venom that I've been considering mounting on my Prodigy while I wait for the RMR plates to ship, and while I haven't put it on the pistol yet, I have placed the Venom on the optics plate, and it partially blocks the u-notch on the rear sight. Approx the lower 1/3 of the notch is blocked, so it still could somewhat be used in a backup situation, but it's not ideal.

I think I'm just going to be patient and continue shooting my Prodigy with irons until the RMR plate arrives.

I was wondering what reason Springfield Arms was using the ad says Vortex Viper but leaves out Venom.
I looked this up and although the Viper and Venom have the same bolt pattern, they do not have the same footprint. I was curious about this before I sprung on the Viper.

Your description of how much of the sight can be see over the Venom..maybe 2/3 is about what I see looking at my Hellcat Pro rear sight through my Sentine red dot. I had thought about trying the Hex Dragonfly, but after reading in another article how dirty the lens got and needed cleaned has me fence sitting. Maybe someone will come along that
installed their Venom and share how it worked out.

I have just installed the Vortex Venom on my Prodigy. It was not simple, it took some "engineering". If you look closely at the difference between the Venom and the Viper, you will notice the Viper is flat across the front, whereas the Venom has a rounded front and rear. The venom uses the same mounting bracket, but when you go to put it on the installed plate, it will not fit lengthwise between the front of the slide and the rear of the site. I took a dremel tool and ground about .003 inch off the front and rear of the Venom aluminum housing and it fits perfectly now. The automatic brightness eye is covered up by the pistol slide so you don't have that functionality anymore, but the site looks and works great, and does co-witness perfectly. Pretty sure I voided the warranty, but I didn't take enough material off to sacrifice rigidity. It's a great little red dot. Hope this helps!

I know this is an old thread. I just did the same. How’s yours working?
