Israeli retaliation against Iran has begun.

It will likely be nothing major I suspect. In fact it’s probably already over. Israel will settle for “ Showing the world” that its “reach in defending itself” cannot be stopped. Iran will claim to have thwarted much of it with its air defenses and downplay the damage in order to save face rather than escalating against a country they know they can’t defeat.

In other words, same old same old.

Sadly, the current same old same old has been taking awhile. Probably because of all the weapons we left for them in Afghanistan

Well it looks like my prediction came true.

Saudi Arabia and UAE calling the Israeli attack a violation of international law pisses me off. I am entirely sick of the Saudis and the US ass kissing going on there. As far as I'm concerned on 9/12/01 ( Earlier actually but...) US diplomatic relations with SA should have been terminated and they should have been declared hostile. I'll leave my comments at that, but let me end my mini tirade by saying there are a lot of "Kingdoms" in the ME that are lucky I'm not the autonomous ruler of the United States.

Nothing we left in Afghanistan has/will give(n) Iran any added capability against Israel.
Of course, depending on what you define as added capability...but I wouldn't say they didn't gain any expertise until it was proven to me

The $6 Billion bonus for "humanitarian aid" wouldn't have added any capability, either. They had plenty of money already. If they give some of that to Hamas, it added no added capability to Iran, either.

But they'll ALL take their victories against the USA even when they're not really victories.

Sadly, these are people who think using suicide bombers is a victory

Obama sent them a planeload of cash and OBiden gave them a bunch more. When IRGC and Quasim Soleimani got their hands on that cash they used a big chunk of it to fund their poxies and continue to do so today. It's the only way those primitive proxies could have all those ballistic missiles.

As far as the Saudis are concerned, they are terrified of mad dog Iran and the IRGC and won't condemn them for fear they will turn on them.

IRGC is responsible for killing or maiming countless American troops in Iraq through their proxies. They were already planning and organizing the insurgency in Iraq before we invaded in 2003. They are evil savages in my book and I hope I am wrong but there will come a time when the U.S. will be in a full on war with Iran.

I hope we never have to go to war, If war is inevitable, I hope they go in with a winning plan and not the usual policemen plan, countries are well aware of our weak administration.
This country should have learned from there policemen policies in Viet-Nam and Afghanistan, go in eliminate the threats and walk out proud.

You are correct. The Saudis will conduct the usual form letter type of condemnation to please the folks on the street and to not stir the pot with Iran. I would not call it fear as much as maintaining the status quo. Not noticed by many at the time, but crown prince Mohammed bin Salman conducted a mainly soft coup of sorts in 2015-2016. The country's governing council and the King would develop a policy and some of the royal family with their huge amount of wealth, would turn around and finance opposition to the policy including funding terrorists. An example is the UAE and the Saudis would rotate troops to the Saudi-Yemeni border to stop the Houthi rebels (one of Iran's proxies) while one of the other royals would fund the bad guys.

The coup started by replacing key leaders in the Saudi military establishment, then rounding up the aforementioned royals. There were firefights in several instances. This was more than a cash grab. It was firmly establishing a real government mechanism in the Kingdom. The Saudis have US and French equipment; the UAE US and French equipment also and some other western suppliers. The Saudis have had Patriot for years and have successfully shot down Houthi ballistic missiles. I don't think they would want to stop that relationship or dry up the gravy train. The Saudis in particular have relaxed the dress code, have hosted Christian patriarchs and other diplomatic initiatives. My beef is with the US government and military which continues to base B-1s, transports and CENTCOM Fwd HQ in Qatar, which is sides with Iran and has been kicked out of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) a couple of times. Jeez, we're two faced .

I am afraid the WWII-Curtis LeMay style concept of visiting maximum violence on a country nowadays would put Israel, and us, in bad stead with the rest of the world. That is especially so now that we have precision guided munitions that limit collateral damage on civilians. The trick is knowing what cave the bad guys are hiding in, and Mossad seems to be pretty good at that. There is a certain line that one could cross that would justify a maximum violence response, and rational leaders will avoid crossing that line. Now one must consider whether those leaders are rational.
