It not easy to do ruger mk 1

oh, i have my trying times with my Rock Island Armory 1911 XT .22 magnum..

there is a very pin that sits in between the barrel and the sleeve...and if it pops out, say goodbye to that gun, cuz you ain't gonna be getting a replacement....

go to the 39 second point, and watch from there.

I purchased this not long after i got my Mark I. It sits behing the hammer strut so it doesn’t get caught behind another pin. I haven’t installed it because i don’t take apart the Mark I very often. I may try it this week just to see if it works. This thread renewed my curiosity in this… at least for now.

take before/after pics, i'd like to see how that thing works.

thanks in advance.

Well, i gave it a try but stoped before i messed things up. In the pic the pin that the hammer strut support is supposed go under is at the bottom of the picture. You’ll notice that it is bent. I did not want to try to tap it out because there is no way it would have gone in under the support. So i am leaving well enough alone and will just have to do the “Mark I Mambo” to get it back together.
Since it was apart i gave it a thorough cleaning and got it back together with a minimum of curse words.
I was hoping to report some good information but alas i’ve come up empty handed. Story of my life. 🤨

wow, almost looks like too, that the hammer strut has some damage.....

jeez, for a 22..????

"softer metal" than what should be there..???

hotter loads taking thier toll on parts..???

the only "other alternative", is to get a new pin, and SLOWLY run it thru the frame, maybe from left to right, so that the spring is kept captured.???

i dunno, may be a smiths job from here on out.

The strut appears to be fine when looked at “in person”.
I shoot CCI standard velocity and some mini mags through it. Nothing hot like stingers. However, it is from 1981 and who knows what the original owner(s) ran through it.
It runs great, is fun to shoot and is a great plinker. I get ~1” groups at 5 yds which spreads to about 2” at 10 yds. For a hack plinker like me, that’s good enough. I’m going to leave it alone for now.
