this is the day the whole country (i think) "used to" celebrate the Victory in Japan after they surrendered.
but given the namby-pamby's protesting that it was disparaging to the Japanese people, many states got rid of it...but here, our WWII vets fought for the state to keep it......for the longest time, i think Arizona, and New Mexico, also kept it, but fell to the protestings.
it was in this mornings paper, when the last RI, WWII vet dies, then, this holiday may be rid of. we will still get the mail, it's not a federal holiday, i think it was in the very beginning.???

What is Victory Day and why is Rhode Island the only state that observes it?
On Monday, the Ocean State celebrates Victory Day, which marks the end of World War II with the surrender of Japan on Aug. 14, 1945.
