Just What is the Use of the Vertical Foregrip?

In general, the shooting methods employing the VFG are not conducive to good marksmanship. The VFG also poses a significant snag hazard on the rest of your gear.

History of the Vertical Foregrip

Depending on AR platform and possible location of it, it's very useful for accuracy shots. Similar to the "palm swell" photo in the article, but without the palm facing up. If my stock is adjusted (carbine stocks) for a tight against the body hold from griping the front of the magwell, then there's no need for them. Sometimes a barrier stop, bipod or a rest when needed. Can be good when a sling isn't attached for support while shooting standing.

But it looks cool and one more Lego I can add on. ;) Years ago I took a perfectly fine Mossberg 500 replaced the stock with a pistol grip, added a pistol grip forearm and ended up with a shotgun about as useful as two tails on a dog. Thus ended my short love affair for anything tactical.

Other than using them as a hand-stop using them is much less stable than grasping handguard with a small hand-stop to anchor your support hand.

I've got a whole box of VFGs & Magpul AFGs since I went through both of those phases.

Wait ‘til you hear me use there, their, and they’re properly in a sentence.

You’ll positively swoon.

(I nearly used “here” just as a joke, but…couldn’t do it).
I wouldn't be able to hear the difference between the three in a sentence. I doubt many could, if anyone. We can all see it when you write it, however. ;)

Gonna hafta deduct half a punctuation point for putting the period outside the parentheses in your last sentence, though. ;) (Hey, don't be upset--I'm a recovering professional, and used to do this stuff for a living.) ;)

Fair enough.

I do occasionally get parentheses and quotation marks rules confused.
