Kidnapping a governor!?

I don't care what any of our politics are and this is not a political post. This is a current events and patriotism post. As many of you have probably seen, a group of 13 was arrested today for plotting to kidnap the governor of Michigan using explosives as a diversion. The fringe groups have been getting more and more overt for quite some time. I've found it very concerning. The DHS recently released a finding that white supremacists are the biggest terrorist threat to our country. Now, I'm not for a minute suggesting the members of this forum are white supremacists or part of the extremist groups getting ready to go to war with the rest of the country. If, however, any of us are at a range or a show and witness someone talking about doing something I hope we will all bring that to the attention of the proper authorities. I thought a bunch of people open carrying into a capital building was already too far, as it carries an implicit threat, but this kind of thing is beyond the pale. I hope we will all act and defend our country if we run across people like the 13 arrested today.

I just heard about this today and I find it deplorable, I understand it’s out thre but this NOT who we are as Americans. As mentioned above if we as law abiding citizens here about or see someone/something like this happening or find out about being planned we need to say something immediately.

I agree for the most part. I think the open carrying in a Capital building was fine it was mostly the people that were the problem. Not willing to give up rights because one group was being jerks. But the kidnapping thing, 🤦‍♂️ people have lost their 🤬 minds. There’s always going to be a grey area if some “boogaloo” or internal struggle happens, but this ain’t it. Those people are a stain on the gene pool 🧬.
I had to censor a last paragraph I wrote because it went into the political side. Thanks Benstt for the admonishment.
Also, I am going to move this to the Lounge as it deals more with terrorism than the 2A.

Only way in America to overthrow a govt is at the election ballot box. Any other schemes whether its voter fraud or armed initiative should be reported and dealt with by the proper authorities. This is not Venezuela or Cuba.

this news make every single gun owner in America look bad

Even if there’s election fraud I’m more that willing to wait until the legal conflict makes its way through SCOTUS. I know there’s a growing number who wouldn’t but our system is what it is for a reason and striking out before every step has been taken is only going to make that group the bad guys. Just like this plot.
BTW isn’t the kidnapping of a public official for political reasons treason? I see a 💉 in their future.

Oh, it happened. It doesn't mean we should repeat it.
The circumstances were a whole lot different way back then. We didn't have a way to vote against the red coats and their rule over us.

Today in 2020 we still have the right to vote for who will lead us and if that fails we can go to the courts . Now if that all fails and things are drastically beyond bearable , then we can consider other avenues of approaching the problem.

We don't need to us the last item on the list right off the get go.

"................." This is a current events and patriotism post. "................." If, however, any of us are at a range or a show and witness someone talking about doing something I hope we will all bring that to the attention of the proper authorities. benstt, with all due respect, and I sincerely mean that, I wholeheartedly agree with everything you've said in this post, and especially the text I maintained, with exception of the one line I've emphasized. I'm sure it was meant in the purest sense, but it's this kind of thinking that has led to many of the infringements we have today on our 2nd amendment rights.

No one becomes any more a danger to anyone else simply because they step across the threshold of a gov't building and should not be thought of as such. Yes, it does probably carry an implicit threat, but that's the intent...... it's only an 'implicit' threat. It does not nor should it mean to anyone they are in danger, but more to cause them to think of and consider the seriousness and potential threat to our rights of whatever the issue at hand is, and what they are about to do about it. And just how seriously the citizenry sees it.

Apparently it is legal for citizens to open carry in the capitol of wherever you're referring to, as it should be across our entire country, and in that case no citizen should be verbally chastised for exercising that right. Remember it's not a privilege, it's a right. When we law-abiding, responsible gun owners begin to weaken to these kinds of thought acceptance, we also begin to weaken to insisting on our rights being non-debatable.

Well, we can disagree. That's fine :)

The governor is a POS for sure, but if this is actually true ( and it appears to be) these guys are supreme A holes. Kidnapping, rape and murder should all be punishable by hanging. And I mean instant karma baby, no 25 years on death row. I am suspicious of the all the media reports that it was a " Militia". I think that word is greviously misused.

So the FBI has arrested 6 people. If 6 people is a militia then I have about 12 militias going right now.

I think the last I heard was they had arrested a total of 13, and were described as members of some militia. That was news about 9pm IIRC.

Edit: to correct the time

Well I could have been reading an older report.

It's another example of some D bags doing some crap that just gives the left more ammunition. I hope they hang 'em.
13 total 6 front and center in the news as being the leading members of the kidnapping plot, total morons. Of course a couple of the 6 had social media post of training and hate speech towards this Governor as well as other Democratic Governors. So not just morons but totally ignorant morons as well.
This plot was all about the Governor refusing to lift all restrictions implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic. I say make them dig the graves by hand for those that have passed away.

Reading articles on it, the plot was anti-government in general, by a group of true anarchists. Whitmer was chosen because of a) how she treats her state (if I recall, the people involved were meeting in Ohio for planning and weren't even from Michigan) and b) perceived ease of access since she is rarely at the Governor's mansion and is more often at her summer home on Mackinaw Island. They figured she'd make a good "first example".

Yep, that happened back in January. Welcome to Kentucky :)

Not completely in the know on this but most capital buildings in states that have constitutional carry allow citizens of that state to “open” carry in the state capital building because after all it is the people’s capital. I also believe some states have passed laws banning that as well. It’s federal buildings that flat out deny access to anyone packing a gun.

"...I also believe some states have passed laws banning that as well."

Yep, as far as I know, in hard-core Blue-run states from what I've heard.
