Kind of a weird question

Not sure where to put this, but decided this section is as good as any. So, I have a tactical looking backpack that I often carry my Saint Victor Pistol with tactical folder in. I’m going to be flying to Mexico next week for my son’s wedding and want to use this backpack as a carry on. What I don’t want is for some airport customs dog to detect gun powder residue on the bag and get a big hassle over it. Not even sure if something like this would arouse detection, but if it would, is there something to spray on or be able to wipe the bag down with to remove the scent of gun powder residue? Any ideas would be appreciated...
 
Um, yep. There are K-9's trained to detect GSR. I'd get a new bag. How long you wanna stay in Mexico......beyond your intended schedule? Just a thought.

Years ago, I was coming back from a business trip through Philadelphia. I was carrying a leather briefcase which had contained my firearms until I put them in checked baggage, Apparently the brief case had absorbed gun shot residue off my hands and/or the fired and uncleaned guns. I was stopped and the bag was put in some kind of cabinet and tested positive for explosive residue (the gun powder). Before I knew it, I was slammed into a wall and handcuffed and taken to a basement interrogation room. By the time real law enforcement showed up to talk to me I had missed my flight. (This was pre TSA)

Apologies aside, I was stuck in Philadelphia until the next day. At least they managed to pull my checked luggage before it ended up in Chicago without me.

Mexico hates gringos, and they hate gringos with guns even more. Make your own choice.

Yeah, different bag, never having held firearms or ammo sounds like the way to go.

What happened to you in Philly would be nothing compared to what could possibly happen in Mexico. Just don’t need the hassle. Could legitimately turn into a nightmare.
 
Keep in mind that whatever takes place in Mexico is according to their rules ...... you're no longer in the US. Many American citizens forget that and think they have the same protections in other countries that they typically have here.

Forewarned is forearmed ...... that's just a figure of speech, not to be taken literally. Think about what you're doing, whether or not it might be a real hassle, and just how easy it would be to avoid. Good luck! 👍 👍 👍

I was detained by law enforcement at the airport before I traveled to Europe due to a carry on bag. It was the bag I used to go to the range and carry/store ammo in.
My bag lit all the bells and whistles with the swab test with law enforcement. I was detained for lengthly questioning before being set on my way . Almost missed my flight. I was then checked and detained for further testing in Europe. Also on the way home. All over gunpowder residue in the bag.

not worth all the hassle.

use a non firearm related bag.

Wise decision.

i didnt add to my post, I also made the “random” screening list for 2 years every time I flew. Even with family, I was the guy who always got “random TSA check” before departing
