Krebs Custom AK Fore End

Finally put in a little bench time this morning. A Yugo AK-47 that came with a polymer fore grip as I got it, I removed that and installed this Krebs Custom unit so I could put an EOTECH holographic sight on it. Of course, I failed to take into account the gas cut off on the Yugo, so it was a little crowded. So instead I put on a Sig Sauer Red Dot that came free with a Sig 556R. I guess I need to spring for an EXPS or an XPS to get the shorter EOTECH. I prefer the 5x series because they use AA batteries, which are anywhere batteries are found. I like the holographic sight reticle over a dot on rifles. Now I just need to get to the range and zero it.

Anyone else have a holographic sight on their rifle? Looking for brand input...I am more of a handgun guy but have a couple long guns left. Love the 7.60 x 39 round, but am not thrilled about the AK platform. This is the last AK I have, having divested myself of the others.

I put an Eotech on my SP5, returned it though (yes, it's a pistol if you want to nitpick). The quick-release mechanism would not clamp to my pic rail (Leapers UTG-Pro hand guard), even returning it to the Eotech factory, repaired, and returned to me. Would not grip any pic rail I have (Hellion, AR, Smith rails). I also was not fond of the twinkling pixels of the holographic Eotech. Went to a Holosun HSS510C Reflex instead.

I run dots (occasionally an LPVO) on my AR and Hellion, btw. Holographic just doesn't suit my eye

Romeo 5's on mine.

I used to use the Midwest Industry handguards but they weren't very secure so went back to the originals with the opric(s) on the traditional and aftermarket AK side rail mounts.

Haven't checked out the Krebs so hope its solid.
 
I have heard nothing but RAVE reviews of Krebs' AK rifles...I would assume that quality would apply to their components as well.
 
Very solid Talyn. It is well built and well thought out. It was long overdue. This was my last AK. Several years ago when Ol Joe was elected I was afraid he would wreck things. So my wife and I sat down and talked about what we could do to insulate ourselves from him running the economy into the ditch. Get out of debt was the answer, so I sold guns and whatnot to pay off the house. I lost a lifetime collection of toys, but gained financial security. This is my lone AK, so it needed help in the sight department with my aging eyes.
 
I like the Holosun green dot...after a Trijicon Glock 19 since about 2009 or 2010 a couple of years ago I got wooed over to the SIG P365 with a Holosun 507 with the green circle dot. It is so compact and I like the manual safety. After so much time with the Ruger Standard Model 22 and the 1911, upon presenting my Glock I still found myself sweeping off a non-existent safety. I also took a band saw to the Glock 19 and cut it down the grip to Glock 26 dimensions. Very easy to hide in an inside the waistband holster. With my low risk lifestyle the super compact SIG P365 has appeal to me. But as often as not, I still revert to the 1911. It is harder to dress around, but just feels right.

This would look pretty good with a CompM4. Takes everyday batteries and has a small footprint. You might even see your irons through the mount.
 
Shelby, I have a Comp M4 on my Daniel Defense LW and like it a lot. Huge fan of the 16 inch barrel with a mid length gas tube as it really does seem to run smoother than a carbine length. I guess like a lot of guys I balk at spending more on the optic than the rifle, but at the end of the day I need to put performance over price.

Yeah, that was during the era of the quad rail phase and I flat hated those. I am not much for adding a lot to the rifle, so this handguard really worked well for me. I can still add little sections of rail if I want to run a bipod or anything. Mostly looking for a lightweight, accurate AR since I only have one.

Apart from my FN which is set up for the launcher, I am 100% on board with just having MLOK and sticking a short rail on here and there if necessary.
