Last build the old way

After close to 40 years of building knives primarily by hand tools I guess the one I am working on will be the last with that method. Going to have to use power tools if I continue the hobby.

Hammering the steel was taxing on my shoulder with the arthritis. Now all the hand filing is taking a toll on my hands with the arthritis. It's taking a lot longer to accomplish.

I spent an hour filing on a bolster tonight and had to stop. I used to enjoy hours on end sitting and filing on bolsters, guards, handles and hand sanding blades and handles while we watched TV at night.

Sucks to get old...

look at it as learning a new way to do something that you've done for years. i am sure there will be a learning curve using power tools, which will keep it interesting and challenging. and i bet you'll still be able to do some finish work by hand.
and yes, getting old still sucks.

I would guess it's even harder. Maybe not physically but it's a lot easier to screw it up with a power tool than a hand tool.

I've embraced it brother. I still outwork all the lazy ass kids at work. And I'll embarrass a young buck if they want to let their girl see them take a beating from an "Old Man".

Good luck on the knee surgery. And do exactly what they tell you. Seen too many people screw up and end up back under the knife.

I used to say getting old sucks however getting old is better then the alternative.
