It seems as if Trump is working on Putin to accept a ceasefire/peace agreement. While, to me, this seems to be a great idea, I have reservations. Letting Putin off the hook does not, IMO, help at all. By releasing Putin, while allowing him to maintain his positions in-the Ukraine, will only allow him to rebuild his military and become a bigger threat to NATO. Every Ivan Ukraine kills or wounds, every chopper, fixed wing, tank or IFV destroyed means one less we may have to face someday. I was a troop commander in a mech infantry bn in the 80s, and remember training to repel the Soviets when they poured thru the Fulda Gap, Ala Team Yankee. Personally, I want Putin on the ropes. He is 90% there already, to let him regain his breath, so as to get a “ceasefire”, is unpardonable. Sorry for the rant, but I spent too many years worrying about the Soviets/Russians in my life, to let this go.

Personally, I'm not a fan of 'Forever Wars' which is what it will take for Russia to be put 'on the ropes.' I was amazed after Biden's handlers approved long distance missile strikes that Putin didn't function test one of his small tactical nukes at the Semipalatinsk site to remind folks who the big dog is.

Napoleon and Hitler thought so too.
Neither one of those a$$holes listened to their officers in the field.

Because Putin isn’t stupid. He knows if he uses a nuke he will bring the wrath of the world and possibly NATO. So I would really be surprised if that happens.

While the war is silly to most the answer as to why is in Russian history. Russia has tried to fight its invader's from the west in Ukraine.
Russia wanted a buffer and bother recent conflicts started under Dem leaders with us. The land issue/skirmish over Crimea in 2014 was under Obama and the big one now under Biden. All because the US and a couple other countries pushed Ukraine to join NATO.

And while Putin is probably not a nice guy just look at history in that region.

And during the vast majority of known history Ukraine WAS Russia. Western morons, eh, leaders pushing for Ukraine to be admitted into NATO is 100% responsible for the current conflict.

He doesn't need to "use" it against troops -merely test it. Treaty on testing is expired and while he said that he wouldn't do live testing unless the U.S. did, that was before this military action and the losses they have taken. I totally agree that this whole **** show is due to his absolute refusal to allow Ukraine to join NATO with the potential for losing Sevastopol for the Russian fleet.

The previously discussed possibility of "fast tracking Ukraine" into NATO is a path to destruction and I don't think President Trump will support that, with Sec. Defense Hegseth having said the same last week. Even the nitwit Zelensky has said he doesn't believe Ukraine will recover all of its territory.
