No, Beefeaters definitely is not THE WAY.

Tanqueray is good, but I gotta be in the right mood for it. I have a bottle of it around here somewhere. Beefeaters is, well, pedestrian, but still passable. I usually order Beefeater martinis when I'm in a restaurant because the fact is you aren't getting a great martini either way from a restaurant so why pay for the premium stuff. I have a bottle of Beefeater 24 ( scratch that, I just checked, I no longer have a bottle of Beefeater 24) it's quite good.

It does taste kind of like a pine tree, which is why I have to be in a certain mood for it. Sometimes I crave it though. Most of the time though it's Bombay Sapphire or Hendricks if I'm having Gin and Tonics.
