Memorial Day is meant to be a Somber Day of Remembrance.
Memorial Day (previously but now seldom called Decoration Day) is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering and honoring the military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. The holiday is now observed on the last Monday of May, Memorial Day having been observed on May 30 from 1868 to 1970

Now the other 364 days a year you can thank Vet's for their service.
You are always encouraged to celebrate with us on November 11th Veteran's Day.

Thank you all and fly the Colors.... Half staff until noon, then to the peak!!!

Good post 👍. For those that might have a full-size flag pole, remember, raise it briskly to the top, then lower it slowly to half-mast.

Like my forefathers before me, my family has served our country in every war since the American Revolution up to today my brother is serving now in Afganistan. Some of them never returned home and are buried on foreign soil, but we still serve our country. Duty Honor Country. In the morning I will be placing small flags on the Veterans graves and a wreath at our Veterans War Memorial in my city. Some Gave All, All Gave Some & Some Still Do! We all know too well the Price Paid for our Freedom.

Half mast= the distance from the peak the width of the flag down.
Example: If you have a 3'x5' flag the flag need only be lowered 3' down from
the peak.
I get tickled seeing some flags snagging on foliage as they are down so low.
You bet, they get corrected much to the thanks of the owners. Now their flags
don't have to get shredded any more!!

Two of mine, One WWII is buried in Normandy, France Saint Laurent Cemetary, located in Colleville-Sur-Mer behind the Omaha landing beach at Normandy. His Brother Guadalcanal American Memorial Cemetary at Honiara, Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, One of mine WWI is buried in Meuse-Argonne American Military Cemetery located in Lorraine, at Romagne-sous-Montfaucon.France.
