LGS Report

So yesterday I stopped by my local LGS which is fairly close to my home,
(Range USA) formally
(Shoot Point Blank)
They do have a great indoor range.
It Is a great place, clean and well kept with good knowledgeable employees, it’s was good to see that although the name of the establishment changed the employees were kept including some new friendly faces.
Unlimited amount of 9mm handguns.
Not so much in other calibers.
Very limited in 1911’s
Ammunition……….
9mm a plenty.
A larger selection of revolver’s then I’ve seen in the past.
They did separate the “range ammo”
From “self defensive rounds” and prices are not to bad. Still higher then pre 2020 of course.
Nothing in .357 at all.
Limited in .38Sp and 10mm I did pick up a 50 round box of S&B range 10mm and a 20 round box of Hornady 10mm Critical Duty HP. both will be used to practice strong hand (right) shooting only due to my left arm is still in a sling when I’m out and about.

Something I want to share, on the entry door to the building they have a sign that reads,
(all guns need to be in a box prior to entering) nothing says (no concealed or open carry)
I was carrying concealed and wasn’t approached until after my ammunition purchase while I looked at holsters on clearance, the guy (employee) was nice and asked me if I was carrying, I said yes, he then asked me if I saw the sign on the door and if I did why am carrying concealed?
My response was, because I don’t leave my safety in the hands of someone else.
His response “fair enough” and walked away.
Let me add when the LGS was SPB all employees carried open IWB
Range USA allows open OWB

Off today to my favorite LGS that has the outdoor range only.
Edit, I should clarify they don’t have an indoor range but they do have a fantastic store where I’ve purchased multiple guns at.

The local indoor ranges I visit occasionally never bust anyone's chops about carrying IWB or OWB. The only rule is you need to keep your firearm either holstered or in a case which I can understand considering how incompetent some people can be.

You are also allowed to remove your pistol from the holster in the lane if you're using it. They do not allow drawing and firing from the holster though.

The outdoor club I belong to has a couple dedicated ranges just for running gunning drills & drawing and shooting.

at the big LGS, they want your gun in a box or bag, if it is going in for repairs, or you are taking it in to sell, or trade.

otherwise, we can carry concealed.

at the mom & pop bait and tackle/gun store, we can carry concealed, and they don't do repairs, BUT if you have a question on something and need to show them, then YES in a box or bag as well.

at the public indoor range, we can carry concealed, and if we want to shoot that gun, we have to unholster it, put it onto the ports bench, then do so...no drawing and firing.

All the shops I frequent never bust chops on carrying whether openly or concealed. But if you need to have the weapon you're carrying looked at they advise to go out to your car make it safe and then bring it back in preferably in a case and most of the times they will give you a case to borrow. Never had an issue whatsoever.

So as it often does my plans today turned to dust, not only did my truck repair appointment have to be rescheduled but on my way to the
Knob Creek Gun Range I remembered that they are closed on Wednesday. Although disappointed I’m glad I remembered before taking a 1.5 hour round trip drive for nothing.
New plan (tomorrow.)

All the gun shops I frequent do not want you walking in carrying a loaded gun in your hands, but none would object to you lawfully carrying concealed. But then, this is the Florida Panhandle.
Of my 3 main haunts none have signs nor do they care if you carry or not. There’s another one I very occasionally go to called “ Top Gun”. They sell ammo on the internet and are affiliated with one of the big carry insurance groups. They have a sign saying holstered or in a case. I don’t go there often. Not because of anything other than their prices.

Not to high Jack my own thread…..But
having another day to do nothing gave me the opportunity to watch a movie I’ve seen many times but never gets old.
The movie is called
(The PeaceMakers)
George Clooney and Nicole Kidman
If you’ve never seen it I highly recommend it for a rainy day.
I enjoyed that movie. Nicole Kidman is a fine actress. I especially liked her in Cold Mountain.

The shop I get my stuff at has a sign stating, if you are carrying leave it on holster till a salesman asks you to remove it, so here you can carry with no issues, but if you are trading it off, you leave it in your holster till advised otherwise

So off I went to……….,

West Point Kentucky in Bullit County
It was great to look around, they had an awesome selection of guns and an incredible wall of holsters.
The crew is great and extremely knowledgeable.

Did I say they had guns?
As well as plenty of ammunition.
Something new I hadn’t seen before in the used gun room which is the same size as the room pictured is a case of awesome wood work.
