life span of electronic ear protection?

yeah, i bought a pair of electronic ear muffs maybe 3 years ago?

changed out the batteries as needed, when to me, they didn't seem to be either muffling the noise, or go beyond muffling, and i cannot hear anyone talking in front of me. (like a dead battery would react)

seems like when i had installed batteries in the past? the voice was louder.

now, seems like it is muffled?

any general rule, on the life span of these things?

what i have now is a Venture Gear, i got at the range, about 3 years ago. at that time, about $40.

My Howard Leight slim e muffs are about 10 years old. Still work great.

My Peltor Tac6’s are over 10 years old, still work great…my Howard Leight electronic muffs are 4 or so years old, same thing.

Sure you don’t have a battery in backwards?

I use Howard Leight that are at least 10 years old. I use lithium batteries which seem to last longer and so far don't corrode. Lithium batteries have no sag time so carry spares.

Those aren't earmuffs those are just regular headphones for music. Your muffs aren't losing volume your just losing your hearing from shooting with them.....

Just kidding!

I would look at the volume knob first like @Talyn mentioned. If you're muffs are bad you can always pickup a pair of Walkers for short money like these here that even have Bluetooth capability for music of phone calls.

I use a different Walker model with Bluetooth and It's a nice feature to have when you're out shooting by yourself to listen to some jams while plinking. The ambient microphone still picks up outside noise and conversation even with the music playing.

One more note: the music volume doesn't go off the the microphone does when there's a loud noise and there's separate volume controls for both the Bluetooth feature and the ambient microphone.

Yeah, I have the Walker Razor Slim w/o Bluetooth and a pair of Walker ear buds again w/o BT. I bought them before those models with BT came out. The noise reduction function works great.

i have a simple flip phone, not capable of getting music, so bluetooth is not needed for me at least.

well, the brand that i have, was available at the range, and at the time, i needed them to get started. i didn't really know about the decibels that one should consider when buying, nor specific brands.

i might just have to buy another set, maybe a more "higher dollar", better brand, but there are so many to choose from.

I have two sets of Peltor Tactical Pro; one is more than 10 years old and the other is 8 years old, and they are still going strong. I replace the gel ear cushions every few years but otherwise they are solid.
