Currently I have a 16 inch ar-10 (.308) with vortex 1-6 lpvo SFP.
I looking to upgrade and would appreciate input or what some of you folks currently run. This winter I’ll be going on hog hunt but also use the rifle for coyotes.
I remember seeing some positive feedback on a sig lpvo ( can’t remember the thread or whom said it)
As far as budget I don’t want to trade down but I’m willing to spend up to 1500-1800( Night force ) range. I have only been able to find FFP in there 1-8and a bit apprehensive on the FFP only option.
All of my other rifles have SFP and I am unsure of the benefits of a FFP on a LPVO at such close ranges.
Thoughts options, opinions are much appreciated.
Thank you

I put a 3 to 9 Leupold scope on my Saint about 4 years ago. I only use it about 3 weeks out of the year to hunt deer.

A factor is your area. Is it heavily vegetated or open? If the former your current LVPO is likely adequate unless you want to go with a 1-8 or 1-10 to have max flexibility. Sig makes LVPOs in those ranges.

If the latter then you could consider a higher top-end in magnification.

Are you going to be lugging it around or shooting from a prepared position? Weight is an issue with the AR10-type platform unless you switch to one of the newer lightweight versions.

Things to consider....

I’d look at an Athlon…they make an Ares 1-10 that you can get for a little over a grand (or lower, if you look).

I’m confident saying they’re the next Vortex, and their glass is a bit value-prices right now.

FFP is nice, on one hand, because the reticle ranging is constant no matter what power you’re dialed at; SFP can be nice for the constant reticle size.

Piedmont and coastal nc.
Flat, flat , flat. Some rolling sand hills, dense woods, thickets, and coastal marsh. We have a little bit of it all.
Most engagements would be within 3-400 yards.
I d like to keep the rifle light.
Thanks for the input. I’m checking out the Anthlon website now.

Here is what I purchased and installed on my Springfield M1A .308 - and once I finally zeroed the thing in I am getting .75 to 1.25 at 200 with Hornady Match 168gr.
