I know that some gun oils ( and perhaps other lubricants) do have mineral oil as a ‘base’ ingredient. But also have additives.I dont think mineral oil has the lubrication consistency necessary long term or it would have been used by agencies, civilians and Armies throughout the world for a long time if it did.
It’s a by – product from the manufacturing of things like gasoline and petroleum products and the refining of crude oil.
Lots of people use Mobil 1. I think @HansGruber is a fan IIRC. I personally am skeptical of any claim that guns are somehow different than other close tolerance, moving steel parts when it comes to lubrication. Not to sure on the mineral oil, but when I was working a deputy used Mobil-1 on his Springfield Loaded Stainless 1911, and he had no issues, I have never tried using any oil/cleaner that wasn’t made exclusively for guns

yes, i had seen this video about a year or so ago. i use food grade mineral oil to only wipe down the exterior of my guns. never as a lubrication oil.Curious to know what others think of this video (on YouTube, of course).
Specifically, Yea or Nay to his opinions about plain mineral oil on firearms. My own interest is its use on 1911s; comments about that are welcomed.
It’s a bit long but bear with it if you can…
