M1A flash suppressor National Match modification

Recusant

Does having a M1A flash hider reamed to national match specs improve accuracy? I don't think this modification is standard from Springfield, but I may be wrong. I know that Smith Enterprise offers this service, but is it worth the effort? Has anyone had this done? If so was there a noticeable difference?

Various opinions/accounts.

Considering all the other variables that affecthow a rifle shoots, including the shooter, you can draw your own conclusions from the links above.

Plus, if you an upper-level Service rifle shooter in competition then it might matter.

Thanks Talyn for posting those articles. It's like 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. Doesn't appear that the average shooter will notice a difference. Because decent ammo has been non-existent for over a year it doesn't matter which flash suppressor you have on your gun if you can't afford to shoot it.

I agree. My M1A NM is the only M1A I have that has the FH reamed but that's how it came. All my M1As shoot well, but the NM comes specially bedded & tuned.

Targetsportsusa.com has Federal GMM 168gr in stock...

That's worked VERY well in my M1A, even if the 175gr works better.

The ARMY saw no difference when they were building over 6000 M14EBR-RI rifles, so they stopped drilling the flash hiders.
