Just noticed copper residue at 12 o,clock location on muzzel brake during cleaning from recent range trip. Also have the loaded model and this has never occured with it.Although our range only goes out to 300 yds I think this could be causing accuracy issues.I,m no Carlos Hathcock but wonder if any of you have experienced anything similar. The scout is a recent purchase and has about 470 rds on it

Every muzzle device will get fouling over time from repeated use. Is normal. Should not effect accuracy unless built up thick over time. Clean regularly when you clean the barrel and chamber as you noted and you should be fine

Every muzzle device has a larger inner diameter than the rifled bore diameter therefore the bullet should have no contact with a "properly" constructed and/or aligned muzzle device.

There is an alignment tool for the M1A/M-14 family that should be used for MD installation and/or for checking to see if there's a mis-alignment problem.

As I clean the rifle after every use I,m inclined to come down on the side of mis alignment. Will try to locate a gunsmith in my area to confirm.

If the muzzle device is still attached, you aren’t getting strikes.

Additionally, you’d be feeling a very odd recoil impulse from the strike, if somehow you were.
