mag restricted states

for those of you that are limited to mag capacity, you may (or may not) have run into this.

so, i have a Sig P320 and took it to the club this morning, and 1 mag...a 17 round mag, had a "mag block" installed, and NOT by me, as this one had the epoxy on it.

i had to buy the block, give it to the gun dealer, and they installed it, (no charge) before i got the P320, which was on back order

ok so now, i "should" get 10 rounds in the mag....but it would only take 9.

like WTF..??

i get the gun/mags home, and take apart the mag.

i then very carefully ground down the mag block, reinstalled and tried loading 10 rounds.

at the top of the magblocks, there were these "nubs"?? that were preventing that 10th round

i only had to grind down those nubs to the top of the block, so a little at a time.

only had to do this once.

you can still see some of those "nubs"..

this is the first time, i had to modify a magblock, and yes, the correct magblock was ordered. i just checked my account at Magblock

all other magblocks i had to purchase were of absolute, NO problems

i have to say this too......the gun store purposely did NOT apply the epoxy properly, to allow removal, when this insipid mag ban gets thrown out of court.

I'm in IL and we have a 15 round limit on pistols. The range I go to has no issues with what I shoot, our law states that the magazines can still be used in ranges or on private property so I just go about my business as normal. I would probably just pick up a smaller capacity magazine and not change my originals. I guess that depends on how the actual law is written in your state. Only issue I would have is if I wanted to buy something that comes with a 17 or 20 round mag. It would come with a 15 round factory magazine.

I have two MOD-2 Grip Zone pistols.
One is a compact and one is a Tactical, both came with 16 round mags.
Thanks to Illinois governor flintstone his gun ban rules only allow 15 round max so now I have a full size pistol with 10 rounds mags since that's all is available.
There is nothing available to eliminate one round.
XDMAN gave me a suggestion that I need to follow up on.
I don't really want to trade them since they work great and since most full size now have 17 plus round capacity.
Sorry for high jacking your post...

in my state..have more than a 10 round magazine..........felony.............period.

not at the range, not in your ccw, not in your house, not in your vehicle....

now, whether or not "some" take more than 10 round magazines to the range here...........

they had better drive super carefully, (with in the speed limits), not get pulled over for a traffic citation, and not have an accident.

cops find those magazines.........felony

I'm glad our guns laws are so strict in IL, it has done wonders to curb the crime rate in Chicago. These liberals get dumber every year.

to me, it looks like sooner or later...ALL semi-automatics will be banned...and all we will have is a revolver with a Barney Fife round......(1 round in our pocket)

I also live in Illinois but I don't own any double stack pistols. This stupid law sucks and I hope I live long enough to see it struck down.

So it's going to trial on the merits in the Southern District Court in July with the Trump appointed judge McGlynn that gave us the injunction for a week when this law was first announced. I'm just wondering what happens if it gets over turned? Will the Northern District just over turn that ruling and put us back where we are now? I was reading if SCOTUS agrees to hear this case it will get even get heard until next fall.

We weren't denied at SCOTUS, just got relisted. Gotta watch next Tuesday to see what's going to happen, if anything. Wanna keep up with what is going on in the people's republic of Illinois, watch freedom steel on YouTube. Todd keeps us up to date. Bishop on air is another resource.
To the OPs point on mag blocks. That sucks, I mean we have our mess, but 10 rd mag laws are BS. I'm glad you found a gunsmith that did such a thorough job on yours. People like that are hard to find and harder to hang on to.
We can hope for a descent with instructions or "guidance " to the lower courts to hear and interpret the cases properly. Unlike the heinous legal gymnastics that the 7th CoA took part in.

I listen to Bishop every morning, he has been the only one covering this in such depth.
