Magazine Maintenance Do’s and Don’t’s

Thanks for posting. I have to admit this is something I took for granted until a few years ago. Generally I break them down and wipe them with a clean cotton cloth and use dry lube on the springs. I would point out that all the internet research I can find shows no difference in spring life between loaded mags and unloaded mags.

I would think that to disable/damage a spring you'd have to compress it BEYOND "fully compressed" and into opposite-range, i.e. bend it backwards. Just a guess. I suspect most magazine failures come from debris catching on, and scoring/scratching, the moving parts - not spring weakness.

Good article-I find myself getting into mag cleaning and lube with different fella's every now and then.
It's amazing how many think that a person is supposed to lube the inside of magazines-you know if I just spray some WD40 down there it will be fine.
