Magazines, at what point, if any, are too many?

I attempted to go through all 125 pages of The Lounge to see if this question had been posed, but after going through ten pages I figured, what the hell.........

Personally, I figure five magazines per magazine fed firearm is the bare minimum, and in the case of clip fed (M1 Garand and such) one hundred is a good low number.

At this point the least I have for any of my mag fed types is three for my SA-35, but that's soon to change.

AR and AK wise, I have more than I know, for each I stopped counting at fifty, and I'm still buying as I see them depending on price.

Anyway, hope this thread adds to the discussion.......

i don't own any rifles, only handguns.

as such i have Allen brand gun carrying cases, (from wally's world emporium) that hold 4 magazines. so for each handgun, i have 4...magazines.

i suppose i could also just keep one in the magwell too, for a total of 5, but right now, i am satisfied with 4 per gun.

Right now the most I have is 5, my Hellcat came with 5. I’m actually working on adding more for the 9mm guns I have. The least I have is 3. I have a mountain of Wilson Combat mags for my .45s. They had a good sale on them at Scheels a while back and I had a good sized gift card, so….

I don't really know how many 1911 and AR magazines I have. I have a bunch still in the package in a drawer. Any time I'm at Cabelas and they have magazines on sale hanging on an end cap I have to toss a few in the basket then in the drawer at home. For some reason I only have three mags for my Glock pistols. I guess because I only buy a lot of mags for the ones a shoot a bunch.

Wait you can have too many? I have a 20 or 40mm ammo can full of them for every firearm I currently own or a few left overs from those I did own. In my state (Illinois) I feel they may be a form of cash one of these days, unless to overturn the "AW" ban. Still I'm flush😉

Depends on the firearm.

If it’s a collector, that I’m not going to shoot much (say, my Colt 1903 or 1908)…a couple is plenty.

If it’s a handgun I have multiple copies of—say, my VP9’s (which share mags with my P30’s, and the K versions share mags with my P2000’s/SK/USP Conpact)…more is better. Particularly if I run them a lot/slot them in carry/defensive roles. 5 per would be minimum; 10 per optimal.

Rifles? If it’s a “social work” piece…I break my mags into practice/range & “work” categories; usually a dozen in the first category and 10-20 of the second.

Clips? See above. If you plan on using it…probably 200 rounds worth, minimum. If it’s a range toy? Doesn’t matter. Probably at least 10, though.

I'm trying to wrap my head around making it through 10 pages of The Lounge and still having the mental fortitude to construct a sentence. 😂

5-6 bare minimum for every pistol I own. And for those that I may expect to rely on for "extended exercise," i err towards at least 10 mags.

AR mags - I'm not even sure how many I have, but quite a few. All Lancers.

I spent a lot of money on magazines this year just trying to keep up with @BET7 . Then i learned of row 8 being totally magazines in his warehouse and gave up. early in the year i kept gun mag warehouse in business. lol no clue how many i have bought this year and didn't need any of them. Even bought several drums for various guns.
