Greetings ladies and gentlemen,
I've never been to a range two days in a row. Since Mrs. BassCliff was busy all afternoon after church I decided to put holes in a few B-8 targets (10 yards) and shoot some off hand practice (7 yards). The Rancho Magnum Range is a convenient place to stop in and go bang. It was not very busy when I arrived. I guess I got here before the after church rush.
I lines up all my magazines. Numbers one and two have been my EDC mags. I decided not to unload the SD ammo and just shoot with the rest.
I started right off with B-8 targets. I even took a video of my first one. But it was so bad I'm not going to share it.
This is my second B-8. The first one was even MORE low and left. I don't think I was trying very hard.
Third B-8, a little better. I'm wondering it that's a triple tap there at the arrow. I didn't notice any really errant shots, unless I totally missed that paper. (It could happen. )
Fourth B-8,still a couple way low-left but more shots are in the black. I'm getting warmed up.
Fifth B-8, since I missed my first B-8 so badly, I just taped it up and shot at it again. This time I put them all in the black. This doesn't happen very often. Yay me.
I know it's ugly. But we're among friends so I don't expect you to believe me. (LOL!)
Sixth B-8, at least there's only one flyer.
Seventh B-8, I let a couple more get out of the black. Drat.
Eighth B-8, at least they're all in the 8 ring.
Ninth and last B-8, I really hunkered down for this one. Seems they're all in the black again.
For grins and giggles, here's the last four targets with the bad flyers indicated.
Then I wanted to use some reactive targets at seven yards to do some off-hand practice. I shot eight rounds at each target except for the second one which got nine.
Here's all four with the really bad flyers indicated by arrows (just in case you can't see them). (LOL!)
I'll need to get more comfortable shooting off-hand and strong-hand-only. I'll try to incorporate this into my other training and practice more often. I shot about 100 rounds, maybe a few extra, then it was time to pack up.
Today I shot a bunch of my LAX Ammo reloads and the WWB I had left over from my training session yesterday. It seemed the LAX Ammo reloads had a skosh more bang to them. Maybe that's why my first magazine was so lousy, maybe not. But I'll be more prepared for them next time.
I know the last time I was here I said I'd rent a 1911 to try out. I passed on that in favor of a quick practice session. I was here less than an hour and a half despite the fact that there was a cease fire and an ambulance had to be called. Thankfully it was not an accidental or negligent discharge. After the paramedics arrived and treated the affected person, he was able to walk out on his own. He was an older gentlemen, about my age or a little older, who got light-headed and passed out. Maybe it was low blood sugar or something. He was very apologetic as he walked out. He got a little applause and the crowd wished him well. I told him I hope he feels better.
OK, I'll stop rambling. I did take some video. Let me see if any of it is usable for instruction, critique, or heckling purposes. If so I'll share it in a follow-up post. Thanks for letting me share my mediocrity.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
