I just read this article on another social media forum. When I became an American (actually while still immersed in the immigration process) I was schooled on the differences Veterans Day, Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day. They are distinctly different, unfortunately many have forgotten the differences.

Canada has Canadian Armed Forces Day (the first Sunday in June of each year) when Canada celebrates gratitude to the country's armed forces, and Remembrance Day (November 11th each year, when the fallen are remembered on the 11th hour of that day with two minutes of silence). Whatever day of the week it is, government (and many civilian) offices and businesses are closed. I have fond memories of accompanying my grandpa to Remembrance Day parades (basically pipe bands and active duty military units) marching to the cemetery to honor the fallen.

Wherever I am in this world on these holidays (American and Canadian), I remember, honor and celebrate those on both sides of the border, as I have many family members on both sides of that line and I have lost several on both sides as well.

Very well said, and heart felt!

I am not a big sports fan, but watching the Indy yesterday, I really liked the Memorial day thing they did,and I really like the phrase, "Without the sacrifice, there is no party"...

I am an old multi vet, and have been involved in dang near everything that has popped off since 90', and yet, here I am sipping bourbon and grilling steak. I owe this time and this opportunity to all those who have gone before and who have made the ultimate sacrifice so that I can get fat and live the dream. This evening I toast all of my folks who did not come back, my brothers who are on eternal watch so that I and my fellow Americans may have this day to celebrate and remember.
To my dudes, you know who you are... Until Valhalla
