Meprolight Tru Vision

Bassbob

Emissary
I saw an ad for these in the Armory magazine and I started looking into them. Looks like a very nice dot. Might like to put one on my IWI TS-12. I'm also considering the Meprolight night sights for my P30L. I have TFX Pros on my VP9 and I really, REALLY like them. Does anyone here have the Meprolight night sights on a pistol and have an opinion on them compared to the TFX Pros ?
And has anyone seen or even maybe used one of the new Tru Vision red dots ?

My SP01 Tactical came stock with the Meprolight tritium night sights.

They are a good sight set-up for the pistol but I wouldn't say they are the best. The tritium dots are very small compared to some other brands of night sights but they do what they are supposed to do.

They also warrantee the glow for 10 years. My TFX are warranteed for 12. Looking at pictures of the Mepros they don't look all that great to me frankly. My consideration of them is largely their alignment with Heckler and Koch and the fact that I think extremely highly of weapons and related gear made by the Israelis. I need to see some sort of advantage though. I will say the TFX Pros for that pistol are running $128 currently and the Mepros are $98, but I don't mind paying the $30 difference.

That red dot though looks very interesting. It's going for $479xx. Smaller footprint, supposedly very tough.

The camera makes the sights appear much brighter and larger than they actually are.
Definitely good sights though but I'm not sure if they are better than the TFX Pros.

In the end it's all personal preference. 😁👍

I could be speaking out of context here but I feel most firearms from Europe use non American parts on them in their manufacturing which is probably mostly due to federal export restrictions on firearm related parts and products. This maybe the reason HK and CZ uses Meprolight over an American branded sight and not because they are superior.

I'm not saying that Meprolight is inferior either as they obviously make a good product.

It could be. Like other Euro companies lately ( Beretta for example) there is a Meprolight USA subsidiary. That's how the 1301 and Benelli M4 are now being sold in the US with all the upgrades that were previously unavailable due to 922a restrictions via Beretta USA.

The bottom line is the TFX pros are both DAY and night sights. I love the brightness in the daylight that others only have at night. For years Meprolight was advertised as the brightest night sight. That might be why the can only warranty them for a decade.
The Tritium inside true night sights (radio active material) has a half life of 12.5 years and after that time the natural glow it gives off will start to fade. This is the reason for the 12 year warranty.

Are they still the standard night sights or does Kimber use other night sights besides Meprolight ? In other words, the guns that they are not standard on, do they have night sights ?
My bad I thought you were talking the Tru-Glo TFX-Pro. They TFX-Pro come on the Rapide, Black Ice line of pistols. Looks like they use both. Although it doesn't name the 3dot "tritium" sights that look a lot like the regular white dot 3 dot sights that came on my original Kimber classic. Heck I had to actually buy mine because Kimber never even had 3 dot sights in the beginning. In fact you actually needed to file down the front sight to "your" ammo you would use.
As a matter of fact mine were regulated to Corbon 165gr hollow points in early 1990's

TFX Pros are my current favorite.

Mine too HUGE fan I have them on the XD-m compact and the Kimber 1911. I'd put them on both my XDM Elite compacts but the optical site will not allow the tru glo to go on because the tru glo back sight is long enough that it doesn't appear that the Dragonfly and TFX-Pro will work together. But hey lets be realistic it would be a waste since I can't use both, co-witness doesn't happen.
